Bayley, Castillo go 1-2 in Ephrata girls win; Weber ties for top of CWAC pod

Ephrata's Stella Bayley and Rayn Castillo claimed first-and second-place to win this season's second CWAC Girls Pod, and Caiden Weber shot even-par golf at Ellensburg to share top honors at the CWAC Boys Pod 2 event last week.

During a five-match stretch, the Tigers competed in three invitational tournaments and two CWAC pod meets, winning one pod meet and placing third or better in three of the other four events.

Girls —

CWAC Girls Pod 2, March 26 at Lakeview Golf & Country Club

Seniors Stella Bayley and Rayn Castillo finished first and second individually, leading the Lady Tigers to their second CWAC pod win of the season with a 383 (+95) at Lakeview.

The Tigers won by 48 strokes over runner-up Othello (431). Selah was third at 438, followed by Ellensburg (448), East Valley (450), Grandview (479), Quincy (496), Prosser (503) and Toppenish (544).

Bayley carded a 91 (+19) to win individually, and Castillo wasn’t far behind with a 95 (+23) for second, with a birdie on hole 11. Freshman Sophie Molitor tied for fourth at 98 (+26) and senior Cecilia Roth shot 99 (+27) to place sixth, giving Ephrata four of the top six finishers. Junior Alyee Roberts (111) and freshman Leola Jones (146) also competed for the Lady Tigers.

10th Annual Grandview Girls Golf Invite, March 23 at Black Rock Creek Golf Course

Ephrata placed third with a 399 (+111) in a 20-team field at the 10th Annual Grandview Girls Golf Invite at Black Rock Creek in Sunnyside. Class 4A Kamiak easily led the field with a 314 team score, followed by Class 1A Colville in second place at 396.

Individually, Bayley was the top Class 2A finisher and placed fifth overall with her round of 88 (+16) that included a birdie on hole 11. Among teammates, Roth was seven strokes back at 95 (+23) to tie for ninth, Molitor recorded a 97 (+25) and birdied hole 12 to finish 15th, and Roberts shot 119 (+47).

Girls golf continues this Friday, April 3, at the CWAC Girls Pod 3 at Yakima Elks Golf Club.

Boys —

CWAC Boys Pod 2, March 31 at Ellensburg Golf & Country Club

Tiger junior Caiden Weber shot an even-par 71 at the Ellensburg Golf & Country Club to tie East Valley's Ayden Kline for top honors. 

Weber birdied the first two holes to open the round, then added two more birdies on holes 7 and 11 in a very solid outing.

Team Ephrata finished third with a 327 (+43), just one stroke back of runnerup Ellensburg (326) and 15 behind East Valley, which won the match at 312 (+28). Rounding out the CWAC field, Grandview was fourth at 340, followed by Othello (346), Prosser (361), Selah (367), Quincy (383) and Toppenish (428).

Tiger senior Cody Ogle shot 84 (+13) to tie for 11th individually with birdies on holes 15 and 18. He was followed by fellow senior Caleb Moberg with an 85 (+14, T14th); juniors Jett Julian with an 87 (+16, T17th, birdie on hole 12) and Rogan Homer at 88 (+17, T21st); and freshman Noah Castillo at 94 (+23).

LaSalle / East Valley Invite, March 30 at Yakima Country Club

A day prior to the CWAC meet, Ephrata posted a 351 team score (+63) to place fourth in a 15-team field at the LaSalle/East Valley Invitational at Yakima Country Club. Anacortes won the invite at 341, followed by East Valley (345) and Grandview (350).

Weber led the Tigers with an 81 (+9) that included a birdie on hole 5 to tie for seventh. Ogle shot 89 (+17), Moberg finished at 90 (+18), and Castillo came in at 91 (+19). Homer birdied hole 14 while shooting 103 for the day.

Competing on Ephrata's second squad, Julian shot 88 (+16) and birdied hole 4 to finish 12th overall.

Moses Lake vs Ephrata, March 27 at Lakeview Golf & Country Club

On their home course at Lakeview, the Tiger boys fell to neighboring Moses Lake 324–349 last Friday. The Mavericks' Mason Bradford led all golfers with a four-over-par 76 while runnerup teammate Drayson Nighswonger was a stroke back at 77.

For Ephrata, Weber placed fourth with an 85 (+13) and birdies on holes 6 and 18. In successive order, Julian shot 87 (+15) to finish fifth, Ogle was a stroke back at 88 (+16) with a birdie on hole 4, and Moberg followed at 89 (+17). Teammates Homer (91), Castillo (94) and senior Brady Hendrick (95) also competed with Castillo getting a birdie on hole 4.

Ephrata continue CWAC play with Pod 3 on April 8 at Colockum Ridge Golf Club in Quincy.
