'Christmas with Little Women' to offer holiday charm at Masquers

SOAP LAKE – The beloved characters of Louisa May Alcott’s classic novel, “Little Women,” will take the stage at Masquers Theater for a charming portrait of two Christmas seasons.

Performances are planned Dec. 5-14 and tickets are on sale now at www.masquers.com.

Directed by Marla Allsopp and Rainy Anderson, “Christmas with Little Women” is “perfect for the whole family and a wonderful way to start the holiday season,” the Masquers said in a press release.

As adapted by Phyllis McCallum, the March family’s initial holiday is marred by the receipt of a telegram from the War Department. While serving as a chaplain in the Union Army, Father lies ill in Washington, D.C. and Mrs. March (Jessica Stredwick) must leave to care for him.

However, a year later, it is a joyous occasion for the family. Jo (Mary Hale) sells her first story to a newspaper. Meg (Finley Wittenborn) is in love and engaged to John Brooke (Connor Leasher), who is a tutor for Laurie (Ely Parrott). Excitement abounds when Amy (Sawyer Greenfield) gets an opportunity to go to Europe. And, most importantly, Father is healthy again and coming home on the evening train.

Rounding out the cast are Kristina Allman as Hannah, Summer Kump as Beth, and Masquers' veteran Carol Boyce as the boisterous (and slightly crabby) Aunt March in a heartwarming story truly in keeping with the season.
