Ephrata Police

The Ephrata Police Department received the following incident reports:

A suspicious person was reported at 10:20 a.m. Tuesday by a resident on Sunset Street S.E. The complainant said he observed a female in civilian clothing entering a marked police vehicle. Police explained the woman was a plain-clothed EPD officer who was in training for the day.

A domestic disturbance was reported at 9:18 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of Maringo Road. Police were told that a suspect had assaulted a female family member, then fled in a vehicle. Officers located Pahana N. Hogge, 47, Ephrata, who was arrested on suspicion of fourth-degree assault (domestic violence) and driving under the influence.

A two-vehicle, non-injury collision was reported at 10:40 a.m. Saturday. Police said Nataliya F. Gordeyev, 43, Ephrata, was driving east on Seventh Avenue N.E. and failed to yield the right-of-way at the intersection of Ivy Street N.E. Gordeyev’s 2012 Toyota Prius collided with a 2001 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Ruben Bernal, 23, East Wenatchee, who was northbound on Ivy Street. Gordeyev was cited for failure to yield and the two drivers exchanged information, the report stated.

A disturbance was reported at 11:01 a.m. Thursday, March 6, in the first block of D Street N.E. Police were told that a tenant at the Ephrata Manor apartment complex was yelling, pounding on neighbors’ doors, and entered a residence without permission. Darla J. Stocker, 61, Ephrata, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree criminal trespass and disorderly conduct. Officers previously contacted Stocker on Wednesday after she reportedly called 911 and hung up multiple times. Police said she was upset over the death of a family member. Stocker said she would not call back, but advised she intended to call the FBI, according to the report.

A vehicle theft was reported last Monday, March 3, at 7:56 a.m. in the 100 block of Fourth Avenue N.W. The complainant said her 2009 Volkswagen Jetta had been stolen from her worksite. Police were told that keys had been left in the door of the car, which officers later located along with a male suspect identified as 40-year-old Matthew S. Garoutte of Mattawa. Garoutte was allegedly seen emerging from an alleyway and lifting the door handles on other vehicles before taking the Volkswagen. He was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle and possession of a stolen vehicle.

A traffic hazard was reported at 2:35 a.m. on Sunday, March 1, at an unspecified location. Police were advised that a male pedestrian was observed walking in the middle of the road. An officer contacted the 28-year-old Ephrata man, who said he had just left a bar and was walking in the roadway so he could be seen by drivers. The officer told the man that blocking traffic was a crime and advised him to stay on the sidewalk. The man said he understood and continued home.
