EPHRATA – Officers from the Ephrata and Soap Lake police departments each treated three selected families with a holiday shopping excursion Thursday evening at the Ephrata Walmart during the annual “Shop With A Cop” program.

Along with other participating area law enforcement agencies, the Ephrata and Soap Lake departments raised money through donations and contributions, then used those funds to pay for purchases. The selected families were based on recommendations provided by local schools and churches, said police chiefs Erik Koch of Ephrata and Pat Canady of Soap Lake.

After gathering initially at the Ephrata police station, the shoppers were treated to a flashing-lights escort to the store, where they manned their carts and commenced browsing, with officers occasionally offering suggestions on gift-buying decisions. Example – which is a better family game choice, “Uno” or “Mousetrap”?

Only Santa knows.

Decisions, decisions … Surrounded by potential gifts, 7-year-old Everli Howe led the way down the Walmart toy aisle, followed by her “posse” – Aja Gribble and Ephrata police officers Chandler Gribble and Rebecca Amos during Thursday’s outing. They helped Everli with her selections, which included shopping for two older siblings, ages 15 and 17.
Over in the hair care aisle, shortly cropped Soap Lake police chief Pat Canady did not have much advice to share with Samantha Watson (right), who was checking out shampoos and conditioners accompanied by friend Lidia Rodriguez.
