Falstad cites experience in county auditor candidacy

EPHRATA — Ephrata native Shannon Falstad has announced her candidacy for Grant County Auditor.

Falstad, 57, is running as a Republican for the position currently held by longtime county auditor Michele Jaderlund of Ephrata, who is not seeking re-election.

The formal in-person filing period is May 4-8 for the 2026 elections.

Citing her “commitment to public service,” Falstad’s career with Grant County spans over 30 years.

She began working at the courthouse in the auditor’s office in 1996, advancing to lead deputy in the recording/licensing divisions. She also supported the elections department during elections and handled accounts payable and payroll in the auditor’s accounting department. Falstad currently works in the Grant County Clerk’s office as the accounting deputy.

“Over the years, I have developed strong working relationships with county officials and employees,” Falstad said in her campaign announcement. “I have comprehensive understanding of county operations and the interconnectedness of departments is particularly valuable, as the auditor’s office collaborates with every department in the county.”

Prior to her tenure at the courthouse, Falstad had work experience as a teller at US Bank and as a recording clerk and title assistant at Chicago Title.

In Washington state, county auditors are responsible for overseeing fiscal accounting services and expenditures, supervising local elections, recording public documents including property deeds and liens, and vehicle licensing operations.

The Grant County Auditor works with a staff of 14 employees and is paid an annual salary of $122,291.

Born and raised in Ephrata, Falstad is a 1987 graduate of Ephrata High School. “My lifelong connection to the community is a source of pride,” she said.

Falstad and her husband, Mark, who works for the Grant County PUD, have two adult sons who also work in the electrical field.
