The Development Coordinator supports GCJ.news’s  fundraising and revenue-generation efforts during a critical growth phase. Working closely with the Board of Directors and Development Director, this position supports donor relations, fundraising campaigns, events, and development operations. The ideal candidate is organized, entrepreneurial, and excited about helping build a sustainable future for the greater Ephrata community and independent journalism.

Responsibilities & Duties

Fundraising & Donor Engagement

  • Manage donor communications, acknowledgments, and stewardship activities.
  • Maintain donor records and ensure accurate gift tracking.
  • Support individual giving campaigns, membership drives, and recurring donor programs.
  • Help identify prospective donors and funding opportunities.
  • Support Board of Directors in developing and implementing annual fundraising plans.

Membership & Audience Revenue

  • Support development of membership and community-support programs.
  • Coordinate donor and member communications through email, newsletters, and outreach campaigns.
  • Track membership retention and renewal activities.

Events & Community Engagement

  • Plan fundraising events, community forums, and donor gatherings.
  • Coordinate event logistics, registration, sponsorships, and follow-up communications.
  • Strengthen relationships with readers, community partners, and supporters.

Development Operations

  • Support fundraising policies, procedures, and tracking systems.
  • Maintain donor databases including Little Green Light.
  • Generate fundraising reports and dashboards for leadership and board members.
  • Support board fundraising activities and donor cultivation efforts.

Grant Support, as needed

  • Research foundations, philanthropic organizations, and grant opportunities.
  • Assist with grant proposal preparation and submission.
  • Track grant deadlines, reporting requirements, and deliverables.
  • Coordinate collection of program data needed for grant reports.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in communications, nonprofit management, journalism, marketing, business, or a related field.
  • 1–3 years of experience in fundraising, nonprofit administration, communications, customer relations, or journalism-related organizations preferred.
  • Google Suite familiarity is preferred.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Experience with customer relationship management and/or donor database systems preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a startup environment.
  • Commitment to nonprofit journalism, civic engagement, and community impact.

  • Initiative to work independently as well as within the team; at times, with limited engagement.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Hourly Rate: $17.13/hour
  • Benefits: paid sick leave in accordance with State of Washington requirements

Role Expectations

  • Hours: ~20 hours per week, additional hours may be required, as determined by Board of Directors
  • Schedule: 5 days a week, hours determined with Board of Directors approval
  • Location: remote role, with in person presence in the greater Ephrata area regularly for meetings, events and presentations
