One killed, three injured in collision

GEORGE – One person was killed and three others were injured in a two-vehicle collision Sunday afternoon on State Route 283, about two miles east of George.

The accident claimed the life of 48-year-old Jessica A. White of Las Vegas, Nevada, who was pronounced dead at the scene, reported the Washington State Patrol.

Troopers said White was driving north on the highway when her 2019 Jeep Cherokee was struck head-on by a southbound 2015 Chevrolet Colorado pickup driven by 71-year-old Michael H. Jensen of Grapeview, Washington, who had crossed the centerline.

The Chevy came to rest blocking the highway while the Jeep stopped on the northbound shoulder, the WSP report stated.

Jensen sustained unspecified injuries and was transported to Quincy Valley Hospital.

Two passengers in the Jeep were also hurt: Scott C. White, 46, of Las Vegas, and Elijah R. White, 21, of Pasco. Both were taken to Confluence Health/Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee.

Both drivers and both passengers were wearing seatbelts, said troopers.

Drugs and alcohol were not involved in the collision, which was reported around 1:30 p.m. and remains under investigation, the report stated.

The two vehicles were totaled and towed from the scene.

GCHD OFFICE HOURS

MOSES LAKE – The Grant County Health District will revise its office hours on a six-month trial basis beginning Monday, Sept. 29.

The revised hours will be 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and Fridays from 8 a.m. to noon except on the first Friday of each month which is set aside for staff meetings.

Currently, the office – located at 1038 W. Ivy Ave. in Moses Lake – is closed on Fridays. The office is open Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

GCHD administrator Theresa Adkinson said the operational change will be reviewed after six months to determine whether there are enough public visits and contacts with the office to continue remaining open on Fridays.

The proposal was approved by members of the Grant County Board of Health during their Sept. 10 meeting.
