EPHRATA — It wasn't a win, but Tuesday's 40-26 loss to Othello gave the Ephrata Lady Tigers something to build on.

After committing three dozen turnovers in Saturday's blowout setback to Selah, the Tigers took much better care of the basketball against the Huskies, paring the T/Os to 21 while coming up with 11 steals.

It was a good defensive effort by Ephrata: the Huskies' 40 points were the fewest scored by opponent since a Dec. 5 contest against Chelan.

"Last night we were so close," head coach Alain Black said afterward. "Just get two or three of our shots to fall and we would've been right there."

Sophie Molitor led the Tigers with eight points and five rebounds. Rebecca Wiser added five points, going 5-of-8 at the line, and grabbed four boards. Maycee Black finished with four points and a team-high eight rebounds. And Alexis St. Mary chipped in four points on perfect 2-of-2 shooting.

Abcde Garza led Othello with 13 points.

The Huskies led 9-5 after the first quarter and 23-15 at the half. Neither team found much offense after the break; Othello edged Ephrata 17-11 over the final two periods.

Tuesday's game capped a tough stretch that saw the Tigers fall 64-18 to Selah on Saturday and 59-32 at Quincy on Friday.

Against Selah, Maycee Black led Ephrata with eight points and five rebounds. Jillian Linehan added six points. The Vikings used a 26-point third quarter to pull away.

At Quincy, Maycee Black and Molitor each scored nine points, with Molitor knocking down a trio from beyond the arc. Chloe Medina led the Jackrabbits with 24 points.
