MOSES LAKE — The City of Moses Lake Museum & Art Center will host an opening reception of its latest main gallery show, “Cascadia: Art and Chemistry” by Tarra C. Hall-Ward, on Friday, March 6, from 4-7 p.m.

Patrons can meet the artist and enjoy an evening of art, conversation, and creativity. Light refreshments will be available. The reception is free and open to the public.

Museum officials say Hall-Ward artistically translates the chemistry and science of the Pacific Northwest with inspiration from geology, pigments and aromatic chemistry intertwined with the innate properties, texture and intuitive markmaking of oil paints, watercolor and pencil.

“I am really excited to share with the community Tarra’s art,” MAC gallery coordinator Veronica Talbot said in a press release. “It pulls together art and chemistry in such a beautiful way and is something I have never seen done before. When I saw the art on the application, I did not hesitate to reach out and get her booked.”

Patrons can also get crafty at “Art After Hours” from 4-6:30 p.m., a program designed for adults. The craft activity will be tissue paper decoupage.

The museum is located at 401 S. Balsam Street in the Moses Lake Civic Center. Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays. Admission is free. Visit the museum’s website at moseslakemuseum.com and follow on Facebook and Instagram.
