‘Seeds of Success’ scholarship honors legacy of local teacher
Fund for EHS grads established in memory of Carla (Cabe) Pheasant.
EPHRATA — A new college scholarship has been established in memory of longtime local teacher Carla Jo (Cabe) Pheasant for qualifying Ephrata High School graduates or alumni pursuing a field of study in education.
The Carla Pheasant “Seeds of Success” Scholarship is being administered through the Columbia Basin Foundation.
A 1985 EHS graduate, Carla taught for many years at elementary schools, initially in Soap Lake and then in Ephrata, before she passed away from cancer in December 2023. Her friends and colleagues remembered her as a skilled educator who made learning “come alive” in her classroom.
“It was Carla’s dream to see every student love to learn and know they were important,” said organizers. “To continue Carla’s legacy, this scholarship has been formed to help future generations of teachers fulfill their dreams of becoming an educator.”
The scholarship is open to any EHS graduate or graduating senior with a minimum 2.0 grade-point average who intends to study education at any recognized institute of higher learning. A minimum $500 scholarship will be awarded, and prospective candidates can reapply annually.
Applicants will submit an essay reflecting experiences and influences — including involvement in clubs, sports and volunteering — in their decision to pursue a teaching career, and how the scholarship can help them achieve their goals.
