Tiger tennis falls to CWAC opponents Ellensburg & EV
Ephrata tennis dropped both matches last week against Ellensburg and East Valley, but Jeremiah Alvarez, Ben McLain, Milli Hope and Kaitlyn Wolther each picked up wins at doubles.





EPHRATA — Against Ellensburg on Thursday, April 2, the Tiger boys fell 4-1.
Mitch Morford dropped a 6-4, 6-4 decision at 1st singles to Grady Bayne, and Peter Sanchez was beaten 6-1, 6-2 at 2nd. The 1st doubles team of Gavin Somes and Athen Gault lost 6-0, 6-1, and Daniel Kissler and Hunter Mansford fell 6-2, 6-2 at 3rd doubles.
The EHS boys got their lone match win from Jeremiah Alvarez and Ben McLain, who won in straight sets 6-2, 6-2 over Ellensburg's James Garcia and Cass Welsh.
The Lady Tigers were swept 0-5 by the Bulldogs, but not without a fight in 1st singles. Jillian Linehan pushed Hope Button to three sets, taking the second set 6-4 before Button closed out the win 6-4 in the third.
Ephrata's other players went down in straight sets. Kate Maedke fell to Kate Redfearn 6-1, 6-0 at 2nd singles. The 1st doubles team of Kara Davis and Lilly Brewer lost 6-0, 6-0 to Grace Lester and Mckenna Franklin.
Maycee Black and Avery Gault dropped a 6-3, 6-2 decision at 2nd doubles to Sylvia Gruber and Marley Martinez Soltero, and Milli Hope and Kaitlyn Wolther fell 6-3, 6-1 to Cat Castillo and Annika Youngren at 3rd.
YAKIMA — The Ephrata boys were shut out 0-5 against the East Valley Friday, April 3. Lleyton Fast beat Morford 6-0, 6-1 at 1st singles, and Colton Erb handled Sanchez 6-1, 6-1 at 2nd.
Braxton Miller and Nico Rodriguez swept Somes and Gault 6-0, 6-1 at 1st doubles, Jeramy Garcia and Camden Hauver beat Alvarez and McLain 6-2, 6-1 at 2nd, and Grayson Toth and Judah Wheeler sealed the Red Devils' shutout with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Kissler and Mansford at 3rd.
The Ephrata girls were dealt a 4-1 setback in their team match.
Hope and Wolther produced the Tigers' lone victory of the day in 3rd doubles. After dropping the first set 6-3 to Phoebe Lyon and Madi Marquis, the Ephrata duo rallied to claim the next two sets 7-5, 6-0.
Linehan fell to Arella Mendoza 6-3, 6-3 at 1st singles. East Valley took the 1st doubles match from Davis and Brewer by prevailing in a first-set tiebreak before closing out 6-0 in the second.
The Tigers' Kate Maedke fell to Kloe Fuentes 6-2, 6-4 at 2nd singles while Maycee Black and Avery Gault dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to Gigi Morrier and Alexis Overacker at 2nd doubles.
Ephrata returns to action this Saturday, April 11, at Prosser High School with matches beginning at 10 a.m.
