The Ephrata Tigers swept a doubleheader at Toppenish Saturday, April 4,  winning 15-0 and 18-0, but lost 11-4 in a single game at East Valley on Tuesday, April 7, and now sit with a 2-5 record in Central Washington Athletic Conference standings.

April 4 at Toppenish — Ephrata 15, Toppenish 0, Game 1

The first two innings were scoreless. The third changed that in a hurry.

Ephrata sent 15 batters to the plate in the top of the inning, turning a quiet game into an 11-0 romp before the host Wildcats could escape with a third out. Mayson Stredwick kicked off the Tiger scoring with a two-run single. Mitchell Johnson followed with a two-run double. Kai Kaleohano singled in two more. Caleb Froewiss reached on an error that scored two more runs.

Ephrata added on with four more runs in the last two frames of the five-inning game.

Johnson finished batting 3-for-4 with two RBIs while Froewiss and Stredwick each drove in three runs.

Cooper Vasquez and Landen Stephens did the rest on the mound, combining for a two-hit shutout. Vasquez started and worked three innings, surrendering just one hit while striking out six to earn the win. Stephens closed out the final two frames with three more strikeouts, allowing one hit.

Ephrata 18, Toppenish 0, Game 2

Tiger starter Cale Fronsman was sharp in the nightcap, allowing just one hit, no walks, and recording seven strikeouts over four innings. Charles Poirrier came on in the fifth and struck out the side to close the game.

Ephrata maintained its offensive pressure from the first game, scoring two runs in the first, six in the second, six in the third and four in the fifth. Froewiss was hot at the plate, going 3-for-4 with four runs scored and four RBIs. He also scored on a steal of home in the second.

Vasquez doubled and drove in two runs, and freshman Cannon DeLong batted 2-for-2 with two RBIs.

The two losses dropped Toppenish to 0-7 in CWAC play and 2-10 overall.

April 7 at East Valley — East Valley 11, Ephrata 4

Blanked for the opening three innings and trailing 2-0, the Tigers scored all four of their runs in the top of the fourth.

Charles Poirrier led off with a walk, moved to third on an Andrew Rowlands single, and scored on a Mitchell Johnson single to make it 2-1. East Valley then intentionally walked Vasquez to load the bases. After a groundout, Kaleohano followed with a two-run double to put Ephrata up 3-2 and Clayton Wolther tacked on another run with an RBI single.

But the Red Devils took the lead for good in the fifth inning on back-to-back doubles by Braden Albrecht and Andrew McDaniel, followed by a five-run sixth in which the Tigers surrendered five walks, two singles and a hit batter to conclude the scoring

For Ephrata, Elijah Davis went 3-for-4, Johnson and Vasquez each went 2-for-3. On the mound, Vasquez started and struck out six across three innings with Fronsman, Poirrier and Kaleohano pitching in relief over the final three frames.

With the win, East Valley moved into a tie with Ellensburg atop the CWAC standings at 7-0 in league play. Ephrata's season record is now 3-9 overall and 2-5 in the CWAC.
