KELSO — Adylene Sanchez earned a fourth-place individual finish and Alexandra Estrada Rangel sweated through eight matches to place eighth as the Ephrata girls wrestling team joined more than 100 schools competing in the Braided64 tournament Friday and Saturday at Kelso High School.

Ephrata finished 21st in the team standings with 95 points. Host Kelso claimed the team title with 206.5 points, with squads from Cleveland High School in Rio Rancho, New Mexico (185.5) and Hermiston, Oregon (170.5) finishing second and third, respectively.

Sanchez opened her 155-pound bracket with an 18-4 major decision over Eisenhower's (Yakima) Rosa Martinez, scoring on four takedowns and two nearfalls. Then she gutted out a third-period pin against Juanita's (Kirkland) Thessalez Mikaand and a first-period fall over Kamiakin's (Kennewick) Abigail Couture.

But Sanchez stumbled in the semifinal round – her the lone loss of the weekend and just her third of the season – when Cleveland's Eloise Woolsey built a 6-1 lead enroute to a first-period pin. In the medal round, though, Sanchez responded with a hard-fought 3-2 decision over Tonasket's Milana Pilkington to clinch fourth.

Estrada Rangel had a marathon tourney at 130 pounds, winning five of eight bouts to place eighth overall. In the process, she racked up three falls and two decisions, including an 11-9 battle against Sageview's (Pasco) Isabella Otano.

Also for the Tigers, Tessa Hausken (190) and Carolina Monica (235) both compiled 3-2 records with all of their wins coming by pins.

Finishing 2-2 on the weekend, Rayn Castillo (145) had a standout match in her 10-1 major decision over Peninsula's (Gig Harbor) Aliyah Hagara, scoring on two takedowns and a nearfall.

Other Ephrata competitors on the Kelso road trip included Emily Estrada Rangel (140) 2-2, Natalin Abundiz (115) 2-2, Dee Bazan (120) 2-2, Emma Lopez (120) 1-2, Addison Vasquez (135) 1-2, Kashlynn Cobb (140) 0-2, Alexiyana Macneil (125) 0-2, Gabbie Grace Bafus (170) 0-2, Chenille Garcia (105) 0-2

The Lady Tigers return to CWAC mat action this Thursday, traveling to Selah for a 6 p.m. contest.
