Ephrata Middle School winter sports in action
EPHRATA – On the mat and on the hard court, Ephrata Middle School will see plenty of action with 102 student-athletes turning out for the first of two winter seasons.

In all, 74 seventh- and eighth-graders will compete in boys' basketball while 28 more are participating in girls' wrestling, said EMS athletic director PJ Anderson.
EMS winter teams participate in the North Central Washington (NCW) Middle School League, spanning schools from Moses Lake to Chelan. Practices started Oct. 27, games and matches began last week.
The second session of winter sports begins in January, with girls' basketball tipping off Jan. 5 and boys' wrestling starting Jan. 20.
On the coaching staffs, Josh Johnson leads the seventh-grade boys' basketball team with assistants Greg Hewitt and Bobby Paine. Missy Beierman coaches the eighth-grade boys with help from Randall Tupling and Heidi Johnson. Mike Crowder heads the wrestling program with assistants Mac Laird and Steve Hiatt.
