Ephrata volleyball goes 3-1 at Quincy tournament, comes up short to Prosser at home
QUINCY — The Tigers won three of four matches at a tournament in Quincy on Saturday, Sept. 27, defeating Zillah, Brewster and Cascade before falling to College Place.
Ephrata opened with a strong showing against Zillah, winning 25-12, 25-22, then outlasted Brewster in a close match, 14-25, 25-9, 15-9. The Tigers went on to top Cascade, 25-23, 25-17, but could not overcome College Place, losing 19-25, 20-25.
Overall for the tourney, the Tigers were led offensively by Izzlee Haney with 21 kills, Sidney Chornuk with 15, and Alexis Chornuk adding 14. Alyssa Dymarkowski dished out 51 assists to keep the offense moving. Haney and Faith Rodriguez each recorded seven aces, while also adding 22 digs apiece. On defense, Alexis Chornuk and Tessa Hausken contributed four blocks each.
EPHRATA — In non-tournament play, the Lady Tigers dropped to 0-6 on the season following a 3-0 home loss to Prosser on Thursday. The Mustangs controlled the first two sets, 25-7 and 25-14, before the Tigers found life in the third.
Ephrata tied the score 5-5 and even pulled ahead 7-5, but Prosser closed strong to take the set 25-18 and finish the sweep.
Sidney Chornuk led the Tigers with four kills while Alexis Chornuk and Haney had three apiece. Haney and Kennedy Schafer each served up two aces, and Haney and Rodriguez each recorded nine digs while Sidney Chornuk added seven.
Looking ahead in conference play, the Tigers travel to East Valley (Yakima) on Tuesday, Sept. 30, to take on the Red Devils (4-2), then return home to host unbeaten Selah (6-0) on Thursday, Oct. 2.
