Hazardous weather advisory issued for Columbia Basin
Threats of severe thunderstorms, high winds, blowing dust.
EPHRATA — The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather advisory for the Columbia Basin and across eastern Washington with threats of severe thunderstorms, high winds, blowing dust, and showers Thursday evening until midnight.
At Grant County International Airport near Moses Lake, wind gusts up to 69 mph were reported at 8:52 p.m. Forecasters say considerable tree damage is anticipated in the region, and also possible for outbuildings, roofs, and mobile homes.
Lightning flashes have been illuminating dramatic cloud cover over the Ephrata area. At the local airport, wind gusts up to 44 mph were recorded around 9 p.m. Chance of precipitation is listed at 80% with up to a quarter-inch of rain, and possibly higher amounts in thunderstorms.
Hazardous conditions are expected to ease by Friday morning.
