GEORGE – A South Dakota man was killed Tuesday morning in a two-vehicle collision on State Route 281 about two miles north of George, reported the Washington State Patrol.

Rodriguez, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the WSP report. Chege, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured in the collision, which was reported around 10:40 a.m.
Both the Honda and the Freightliner were totaled, troopers said.

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE DISPOSAL
EPHRATA – Grant County residents can safely dispose of household hazardous wastes during two free collection events later this month – one in Mattawa, the other in Moses Lake.
The Mattawa collection event is planned Friday, Oct. 24, from noon to 3 p.m. at the Grant County Road District Shop, 24378 Broadway Ave.
The Moses Lake event is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Grant County Road District Shop, 12171 E. Wheeler Rd.
Hazardous waste products are typically labeled with such words as danger, caustic, flammable, and poison.
Common items accepted for disposal include paints and stains, paint thinners, aerosols, gasoline, yard and swimming pool chemicals, motor oil, antifreeze, fluorescent bulbs and tubes, and rechargeable batteries up to 300 watts. Limits apply to some items.
Items that are not accepted include containers larger than 5 gallons, empty containers, lead acid batteries, propane tanks, electronics, ammunition and explosives, appliances, and wastes generated by businesses, farms, or agencies.
Products should be brought in original non-leaking containers and packed to prevent spills during transportation. Gasoline containers will not be returned.
Detailed flyers are available in English and Spanish.
Sponsored by Grant County and the Washington State Department of Ecology, the two events are free for all county and city households. For more information, visit Grant County Solid Waste or call 509/754-6082, ext. 3508.
