 ‘GALLOPING BREAKFAST’ AT LEGION HALL

EPHRATA — American Legion members, guests, and the general public are invited to enjoy the annual “Galloping Breakfast” on Saturday, Nov. 1, between 8-11 a.m. at American Legion Art Semro Post 28, 276 Eighth Ave. N.W., in Ephrata.

Pancakes, ham, and eggs are on the menu, cooked up and served by Legionnaires and Ladies Auxiliary volunteers. The cost is $3 for Legion members with paid dues for 2026; $8 for others.

Along with the meal, visitors can look over displays about benefits for military veterans, learn more about the American Legion family, and explore some shopping opportunities.

“The Galloping Breakfast is a membership tradition that dates back to when people would ride their horses in, tie ‘em up at the hitchin’ post outside, and come on in for good eats and comradeship,” the local Legion post said in a press release.

HALLOWEEN SAFETY

OLYMPIA — Public safety officials are encouraging trick-or-treaters, homeowners, and motorists to take a few precautions to enjoy a safe Halloween this year.

They suggest these safety tips:

— Choose costumes made of flame-resist materials. Costumes which significantly block vision or have long, trailing pieces should be avoided.

— If walking, trick-or-treaters should be aware of traffic, cautious when crossing streets, and carry flashlights for visibility.

— Motorists are urged to slow down, particularly in residential areas, and look for pedestrians on roadways or darting out from around parked vehicles.

— Youngsters should not consume any treats until they return home and have an adult inspect packages to ensure none have been tampered with. (Kids, that doesn’t mean the adult gets to eat your favorite candy!) Partially opened, non-packaged or homemade treats should be avoided unless provided by a person who is personally known and trusted.

— Homeowners should ensure their walkways and exits are well-lit and free of obstacles. Instead of candles, battery-powered lights should be used in jack-o-lanterns and other decorations to avoid fire hazards. If real candles are used, they should be placed far from doorways, walkways, or other locations where people may gather or walk.
