MUSEUM WILL ‘COME ALIVE’ ON SATURDAY
EPHRATA — The Grant County Historical Museum will host its annual “Living Museum” on Saturday, June 13, in conjunction with Ephrata’s Sage-N-Sun community festival.
Admission is free for all ages on this day and families are welcome.
Visitors can explore the museum’s historic buildings and exhibits and learn about Grant County’s Old West heritage and pioneer past from folks dressed in period clothing.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The museum is located at 742 Basin St. N.W.
SPLASH ZONE SWIM LESSONS SCHEDULED
EPHRATA — Summer swim lesson sessions and dates have been announced for Ephrata’s Splash Zone Aquatic Center. They are:
- Session 1, June 15-18, 45 minutes;
- Session 2, June 22 – July 2, 30 minutes;
- Session 3, July 6-9, 45 minutes;
- Session 4, July 13-23, 30 minutes;
- Session 5, July 27-30, 45 minutes.
Registration signups open a week prior to each session and close the day before a session begins.
Prices for Ephrata residents are $64.25 for regular lessons, $96.75 for semi-private lessons; and $158.75 for private lessons. Fees are 30% higher for non-residents to supplement property taxes paid by Ephrata residents for city recreation facilities and services.
Splash Zone was scheduled to open today (Monday, June 8) and continue through Monday, Aug. 31. Hours of operation are noon to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 2-6 p.m. Sundays.

‘CHIEF FOR A DAY’ AT COURTHOUSE
EPHRATA — Area law enforcement and emergency services providers will participate in the annual Chief for a Day celebration on Thursday, June 11.
Youngsters with disabilities or serious medical conditions are scheduled to arrive by police escort at the Grant County Courthouse at 11 a.m. Dressed in their sponsoring agency’s uniform, the young chiefs receive commemorative plaques during their introductions, are officially sworn in while promising to “have fun,” and enjoy food and equipment demonstrations.
The Chief for a Day program was first held locally in 2002 and has traditionally included a dozen or more police, fire, and public safety agencies.
The ceremony is held on the front lawn of the courthouse and is open to the public.
RED CROSS BLOOD DRIVE JUNE 17
EPHRATA — The American Red Cross will sponsor a blood drive on Wednesday, June 17, from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Ephrata Recreation Center, 112 Basin St. S.W.
Red Cross officials say all blood types are needed right now. Anyone age 17 or older, weighing 110 pounds or more, and in good general health is a potential donor.
An appointment can be scheduled by calling 1-800-733-2767 or online at www.redcrossblood.org.
A pre-donation “Rapid Pass” questionnaire can also be completed on the website. Prospective donors should bring personal identification and donor cards, or download the Blood Donor App on their smart phones.
