Soap Lake looks to fill city council vacancy
SOAP LAKE — The Soap Lake City Council is looking to fill a vacancy on the five-position panel following the Aug. 5 resignation of member Judith Gorman.
The city is seeking a qualified, community-minded individual for appointment to the nonpartisan position who would serve the remainder of Gorman’s unexpired term that ends Dec. 31, 2027. The council seat will be up for election next fall.
To be considered for appointment, applicants must be legal residents and registered voters who have lived within Soap Lake city limits for at least one year. Applicants cannot hold any other conflicting public employment or office.
Prospective candidates should submit a letter outlining their background, interest in the position, and commitment to the community. Letters must be received by Tuesday, Sept. 1 at Soap Lake City Hall, 239 Second Ave. S.E., or emailed to clerk@soaplakewa.gov.
Letters will be considered by council members during their Sept. 2 meeting.
The council regularly meets on the first and third Wednesday of each month beginning at 5:30 p.m. Council members set policy for the city, oversee its financial operations, and approve an annual budget.

There will be an open swim from 7-8:30 p.m., with the pool then cleared and followed at 8:45 p.m. by a showing of the Disney-Pixar movie, “Finding Nemo.” The event is free to season pass holders; general admission prices otherwise apply. No swimming will be allowed during the movie.
The pool’s concession stand will be open throughout the evening with snacks and beverages available for purchase.
The movie night was previously postponed due to windy conditions and regional wildfire smoke.
