Smoke, wind postpone events at Splash Zone
EPHRATA — Due to smoke conditions and poor air quality from multiple regional wildfires, the Ephrata Police Department has postponed its “National Night Out” event scheduled this evening (Tuesday, Aug. 4) at the Splash Zone aquatic center.
“We were hoping for the best but the air quality has clearly gotten worse,” the department said in a Facebook post this morning. The date of a rescheduled event will be announced when established.
National Night Out is an annual campaign, typically held in the first week of August, that fosters positive police-citizen relationships to build safer, caring communities. Along with Ephrata, other events were planned this week in Grand Coulee, Mattawa, Moses Lake, and Quincy.
The Splash Zone pool was also closed early this week due to smoke and unhealthy air conditions.
The rec department’s “Dive-In Movie” night originally scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 1, was postponed that evening due to high winds.
The movie night has tentatively been rescheduled to this Saturday, Aug. 8. Weather permitting, there will be a public swim from 7-8:30 p.m., followed at 8:45 p.m. with a showing of the Disney-Pixar movie, “Finding Nemo.” Admission is free for season pass holders; regular general admission prices apply to non-season pass holders.
Ephrata Parks & Rec Fall 2026 Activity Guide
EPHRATA — The City of Ephrata’s Parks and Recreation Department has released its Fall 2026 Activity Guide.
The online guide lists upcoming programs for toddlers, youth, and adults, including soccer, flag football, basketball, group exercise, dance, cheer, tumbling, food classes, community resources, and more. Some youth sports programs have Aug. 23 registration deadlines.

‘Museum Day’ on Saturday, Aug. 8, across Washington
TACOMA — More than 100 museums across Washington state will open their doors to visitors at free or reduced rates on Museum Day, Saturday, Aug. 8.
In Grant County, listed participants include the Moses Lake Museum and Art Center, the Quincy Valley Historical Society and Museum, and the Wanapum Heritage Center near Mattawa.

Museum Day is part of a statewide commemoration of America's 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Communities across Washington are organizing local events to commemorate this landmark year, including Museum Day, which is intended to promote and share local history.
“Learning about our history, sharing our stories, and preserving our history for future generations is a key component of our approach to the semiquincentennial. Here in Washington, we are doing that by connecting with local communities, local histories, and local voices,” said Washington Lt. Gov. Denny Heck in a press statement.
