EPHRATA — The Lady Tigers softball squad beat Prosser 8-3 in the opening game of a doubleheader and lost the afternoon 18-9 at home on Saturday, April 18.

Ephrata 8, Prosser 3 (Game 1)

Haley Trusty threw a complete game on 92 pitches, allowing six hits and striking out five.

Ephrata took a 1-0 lead in the first when Ella Piturachsatit singled and Dakota Durfee doubled her home.

Prosser tied it in the second on catcher Lina Lefebvre's solo home run.

Ephrata regained the lead in the bottom of the second when Hannah Hull reached on an error, then scored on Cami Martinez's RBI single.

The Lady Tigers added three more runs in the third. Piturachsatit singled, Durfee doubled her to third and Bailey Falconer's sacrifice fly scored the Tiger third baseman. Durfee then came home on an error. A Riley Trusty sacrifice fly scored Bayleigh French, who initially reached base on a Prosser error.

Prosser trimmed Ephrata's lead to 5-3 on a Mallory Barnhart two-run homer in the fourth.

But Ephrata added a trio of runs in the next three frames when Falconer singled home Durfee in the fourth, Riley Trusty bunted in Haley Trusty in the fifth and Hull's RBI single scored Falconer in the sixth.

Durfee finished 2-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI. Falconer batted 2-for-4 with two RBI. Hull was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Piturachsatit added two hits and two runs.

Prosser 18, Ephrata 9 (Game 2)

In the afternoon game, defense proved costly for the Lady Tigers who committed 11 fielding errors — 14 of Prosser's 18 runs were unearned.

Ephrata took a 1-0 lead in the first. Martinez walked, Sidney Chornuk singled her to second and Martinez stole home during Piturachsatit's at-bat.

Prosser scored five in the second, but Ephrata answered with three in the bottom of the inning. Both Falconer and Haley Trusty drew walks and Hull singled to load the bases. Successive walks issued to Riley Trusty and Martinez pushed across two runs, while Brynnle Leonard's fielder's choice grounder scored Hull.

Mustangs added five more runs in the third inning on a solo home run, an RBI triple and three runs on Tiger errors. Prosser tacked on another run in the fourth with a steal of home during a strikeout.

The Tigers posted two runs in the bottom of the third on French's RBI double and a Riley Trusty sacrifice fly. They added two more in the fourth when Piturachsatit scored on an error and Falconer doubled in Durfee. In the fifth inning, Durfee tripled in Martinez but was thrown out at home on an attempted steal.

For the game, Durfee batted 2-for-5 with a triple, an RBI and two runs. Falconer and French each doubled and drove in a run. Martinez drew three walks while Haley Trusty and Hull each walked twice.

Sidney Chornuk started in the circle and allowed five runs, three earned, over the first two innings before Haley Trusty took over in the third. Trusty threw the third and fourth, giving up six runs, only one earned. Chornuk came back in for the fifth and sixth innings and allowed three more runs, all unearned. Bayleigh French pitched the seventh and allowed four runs, none earned.

Ephrata now sits fifth in the CWAC standings with a 5-5 record.

The Lady Tigers host Othello this Thursday, April 23, for a 4 p.m. doubleheader. They travel to Quincy for another doubleheader Saturday, April 25 at 11 a.m.
