RICHLAND — Ephrata’s Alexandra Estrada Rangel went 4-0 to claim a championship at 135 pounds, leading the Ephrata girls wrestling team to a fifth-place finish at the 2025 Winter Cup on Monday, Dec. 29 at Hanford High School.

The Tigers finished with 106.5 points in the 32-team field. Toppenish won the team title with 225 points, followed by Moses Lake (162.5), Royal (145) and Cheney (130).

Estrada Rangel dominated her bracket, winning all four matches by fall. She opened with a win by fall at 1:17, then needed just 52 seconds to pin her second opponent. In the semifinals, she recorded two takedowns before finishing the match with a fall at 2:00.

In the championship match against Cheney's Paige McGee, Estrada Rangel built an 8-1 lead with two takedowns and a reversal in the second period before pinning McGee.

Ephrata also got runner-up finishes from Adylene Sanchez (155) pounds and Carolina Monico (235).

Sanchez went 3-1 on the day, pinning her first three opponents to reach the finals. In the championship bout against Hailee Orgill of Deer Park, Sanchez lost a 4-2 decision. Monico also finished 3-1, pinning her first two opponents in the first period before rolling to a 19-4 technical fall in the semifinals. She scored on two takedowns, an escape and two nearfalls.

Advancing to the championship round, Monico took a 2-0 lead into the third period against Charlene Underwood of Toppenish. But Underwood rallied with a reversal, and a stalling penalty against Monico gave Underwood a narrow 3-2 decision.
