EPHRATA — Leisha Adams has been appointed to fill a vacancy on the Ephrata School District’s five-member board of directors.
Adams, 40, will represent the board’s District 4 position following the resignation of Jim Adams, who stepped down in June. She joins current board members Casey Devine, Mike Fleurkens, Matthew Truscott, and Josh Sainsbury.
“Deeply committed to the success, well-being, and future of Ephrata students and the broader community, Leisha brings extensive volunteer experience to the role, including serving as Parkway PTO president and secretary, supporting EHS Choir Boosters, and contributing to several school district committees,” the district said in a statement following her appointment last month.
"As a resident of Ephrata, I believe that strong schools are the foundation of a thriving community, and I want to contribute my time, perspective, and dedication to ensuring that every student has access to a high-quality education in a safe and supportive environment,” Adams said in the statement.
Director District 4 includes a portion of southwest Ephrata city limits, but is mostly rural extending from Sagebrush Flats Road south to Interstate 90.
The nonpartisan position will be up for election in 2027.
In Washington state, public school directors are responsible for setting policies, overseeing budgets, and supervising superintendents of local school districts.
