Local 1B teams see state tournament action
Fall sports teams from Soap Lake and Almira-Coulee-Hartline ventured into state playoff/tournament action over the past week. Here's a summary:
Almira-Coulee-Hartline Football: The Warriors sit at 9-1 overall, after winning their opening-round state playoff game at home Saturday, Nov. 15 , rolling past Entiat, 57-14.
ACH will now face 10-1 Naselle in the quarterfinals on Saturday, Nov. 22.
Almira-Coulee-Hartline Volleyball: The Lady Warriors earned a fourth-place trophy on Saturday at the state Class 1B tournament in Yakima after finishing the regular season with a 21-9-1 record.
Seeded seventh, ACH defeated Darrington 3-1 in the first round of state play (25-20, 20-25, 25-22, 25-21), then upset second-ranked Neah Bay 3-2 (23-25, 25-17, 19-25, 25-13, 15-11) in the quarterfinals.
In the semifinal round, ACH lost to eventual state champion Garfield-Palouse 3-0 (25-14, 25-16, 25-16), then fell in a 3-1 contest against Oakesdale in the third/fourth-place medal round (18-25, 25-18, 25-14, 26-24).
Soap Lake Volleyball: The Lady Eagles, who finished their season with an 11-4 record, also qualified for the state 1B championship tournament. Seeded 13th, they faced No. 20 Wahkiakum in their opening match but lost a four-set battle (25-15, 15-25, 25-22, 25-21) and were eliminated.
