Roger Lee Blackman, 84

Born: January 12, 1942 - Died: June 28, 2026
On Sunday, June 28, 2026 Roger Lee Blackman, AKA: Blacky, passed away at age 84 in Spokane, Washington.

Roger was born on January 12, 1942, in Seattle, WA, to Lawrence and Virginia Blackman.

He is survived by his sister Christy Blackman-Wong, (Clifford) sons Karl Blackman (Valdena), Joseph Blackman, and daughter Carrie King (Charles)
He has 9 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, Virginia Alice and Lawrence Basil Blackman, wife Lola (Liebing) Blackman, Brother Lawrence (Sonny) Blackman, and Sister Wilma Blackman.

In his adolescence, his family moved from the West side of the state to Moses Lake, where he graduated High School, and then enlisted in the United States Coast Guard and later, the United States Army. He was proud to serve his country, and completed 2 tours in the Vietnam War, retiring at the rank of Staff Sergeant.

Roger was a self-taught master-machinist by trade, and he was always willing to tackle a job no matter how large or small a project, he loved to work with his hands and try to figure out the impossible. It was quite the battle to get him to retire in his 80s. Most recently he was the owner operator of Wilson Creek Machine, and Previously the Owner of Superior Welding, in Moses Lake.

He was an avid pilot who flew often, even though he was unlicensed due to hearing loss from an incident in the Military.

Roger also built a few of his own experimental aircraft, including a P-40 Warhawk, which was his pride and joy, and has multiple pictures of people in and around it.

He will be remembered for his love of all animals, his love for his family, his strong work ethic, and love of helping anyone he possibly could.

A viewing will be held on Friday, July 10, from 1:00pm-3:00pm at Nicole's Funeral Home 157 C Street NW Ephrata, WA 98823. A graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday July 11, 2026 at 10:00am, at the Wilson Creek Cemetery 4th Street North Wilson Creek, WA 98860
