EPHRATA — Police are investigating a shooting incident reported around 6 p.m. Thursday (Oct. 8) on Ephrata Heights in the 1100 block of Second Avenue N.E. at the western edge of Linda Ridge Loop.
No injuries were reported, but officers determined shots had been fired and two suspect vehicles were identified, a red four-door Subaru and a black Jeep, said city public information officer Rob Miller in a Facebook post.
Witnesses reportedly saw the two vehicles going through an apartment complex at the location, residents from one apartment emerged, an altercation ensued, and at least one gunshot was fired. Occupants of the vehicle and from the apartment wore masks in the confrontation, Miller said.
The Subaru fled east on Second Avenue, then turned onto Linda Ridge Loop where it collided head-on with an uninvolved vehicle at the intersection. The uninvolved driver did not appear to be injured, but both vehicles sustained substantial damage.
Occupants in the Subaru exited the car and got into the Jeep, which fled the scene, but was stopped a short time later in Quincy by Quincy police. Five individuals were detained for questioning.
“There is currently no danger to the public,” Miller said in an online update at 7:40 p.m.
Any potential witnesses are encouraged to contact Grant County MACC Dispatch at 509-762-1160 to provide details.
In recent weeks, Ephrata police have responded to several prior disputes among some residents in the Linda Ridge Loop area. It was not immediately known whether Thursday’s shooting stemmed from any of those earlier incidents.
The investigation is ongoing.
Miller said Ephrata police and the City of Ephrata thanked the Grant County Sheriff’s Office, Quincy police, and MACC Dispatch for their assistance.
