EPHRATA — The Ephrata Fire Department hosted its popular annual “Touch-A-Truck” event on Saturday, May 16, in the Splash Zone parking lot.

The free family event offered kids of all ages a hands-on experience exploring law enforcement and emergency vehicles, construction and delivery trucks, buses, military rigs, solid waste haulers, farm tractors, and more.

They also had a chance meet the people who build, protect, and serve our communities, and enjoy other fun activities.

Here's a look:

Protective turnouts, helmets, breathing apparatus, and rescue equipment were on display in front of an Ephrata fire truck.

The Port of Moses Lake provided a specialized firefighting rig used for aircraft at the Grant County International Airport.
Anyone need a lift? A Grant PUD crew showed off a bucket truck and equipment hoist boom and auger.
5-year-old Matthias Perez Nguyen of Soap Lake manned the wheel of a JLTV (joint light tactical vehicle — a newer version of the Humvee) provided by the local National Guard detachment.
Small child, big rig: a youngster gets a helping boost into the cab of John Deere tractor.
The giant maw of a Washington Department of Transportation snow plow towered over visitors at Saturday's event.
Kids also had a chance to score a variety of snacks and collectible stickers ...
... hitch a ride with the parking lot transit ...
... practice their hose skills and firefighting aim ...
... and, with the assistance of a DOT electronic sign board and suggestions from Ephrata police officers ...
... ask for a hug from police chief Erik Koch, who was manning a nearby display. All in all, good stuff on a nice spring day.
