EPHRATA — Senior Night was payback night for Tiger baseball on Tuesday, April 28.

Ephrata first honored seniors Braiden Baltz, Elijah Davis and Grayson Webb, then used a late-game offensive outburst to blank Basin-rival Quincy 10-0 in a six-inning contest at Johnson-O'Brien Stadium.

The Tigers' league win snapped a seven-game losing streak and evened their season series with the Jackrabbits, who beat Ephrata 3-2 last week.

Cooper Vasquez dominated on the mound. He tossed six shutout innings, allowing just two hits and two walks while striking out 12 on an efficient 78-pitch outing.

The Tigers cracked a 0-0 stalemate with four runs in the fifth. Andrew Rowlands doubled to right and Mitchell Johnson doubled him home. Caleb Froewiss reached on an error to put runners on the corners. Vasquez's line out to center scored Johnson, and Elijah Davis reached on an error to score Froewiss. Clayton Wolther reached on a wild-pitch dropped third strike, and Cale Fronsman singled to center to score Davis.

The Tigers added six more runs in the final frame. Kai Kaleohano walked, Andrew Rowlands was hit by a pitch and Mitchell Johnson walked to load the bases. Froewiss singled to center to score Kaleohano and Rowlands. Vasquez singled to center to score Johnson and Froewiss. Charles Poirrier walked and Cale Fronsman reached on a Jackrabbit error to score Vasquez. Dayne Holland hit a walkoff single to right to score Poirrier, sending Quincy home early on the 10-run rule.

Quincy starter Ashton Keller took the loss after five innings allowing three hits, four runs (only one earned) and 11 strikeouts. Rocko Reyes relieved him in the sixth and gave up six runs on three hits and three walks in one-third of an inning. Four errors in the game also proved costly for the visitors.

For Ephrata, Mitchell Johnson finished 1-for-2 with a double, an RBI, two runs scored and two walks. Andrew Rowlands was 1-for-1 with a double, two HBPs and two runs. Cooper Vasquez had three RBI.

The Tigers, eighth in the CWAC standings with a 3-11 league record, close the regular season at Ellensburg on Saturday, May 2 with a doubleheader. First pitch is at 11 a.m. Ellensburg is second in the CWAC at 11-3.
