Tiger soccer edges Selah, 3-2, for CWAC road win
Yahizee Alvarado scored twice in the second half Tuesday to lift Ephrata to a 3-2 road win over Selah.
SELAH — Yahizee Alvarado continued his scoring streak, striking twice in the second half Tuesday, April 14, to lift Ephrata to a 3-2 win over Selah in Central Washington Athletic Conference soccer play.
Diego Santana opened scoring, putting the host Vikings ahead in just the third minute. But Tigers' Avian Soto answered two minutes later off an assist from Junior Chavez to tie the match at 1-1.
Alvarado started second-half scoring at the 50-minute mark off a Soto assist, then added an unassisted goal at the 60-minute mark to give Ephrata a 3-1 lead. Selah's Kevin Sanchez shrank the gap by one with his goal at the 70th minute.
But that concluded the scoring, with Tigers' defense securing the win thanks in part to goalkeeper Isaac Blancas' 11 saves during the match.
Ephrata improves to 6-6 overall and 2-2 in CWAC play. The Tigers travel to East Valley (Yakima) this Saturday with kickoff planned for noon.
The Red Devils sit at 9-1 overall and 3-1 in league and are ranked fourth in statewide Class 2A RPI standings. EV's defense has allowed just two goals all season.
