Tiger offense progresses in 2-1 win over Ellensburg, Moses Lake on tap
EPHRATA — Ephrata showed continued growth on offense Tuesday night, pushing past visiting Ellensburg, 2-1, in league soccer action.
Brooklynn Sieverkropp opened the scoring in the first half, finishing off a pass from Lila Rainey to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead at the break. Paige Murray added an unassisted goal in the second half to make it 2-0 before Ellensburg posted its lone score.
Throughout the match, Ephrata kept the pressure on, outshooting the Bulldogs with 21 shots on goal – eight in the first half and 13 in the second. Murray led the Tigers with seven shots, while Delanie Killinger added four. Rainey and Jill Linehan combined for five more, and goalkeeper Aiyana Valle collected eight saves to protect the lead.
Ephrata coach Gary Klepec said the Lady Tigers “played very good soccer tonight," showing balance on both ends of the field. He credited defenders Rainey and Valle along with attackers Killinger, Murray and Sieverkropp for leading the way.
With the win, the Tigers improved to 2-2-1 overall and 1-0 in Central Washington Athletic Conference standings.
Around the CWAC, East Valley (Yakima) edged past Othello 3-2, while Prosser took a narrow 1-0 win over Toppenish, and Quincy blanked Grandview 2-0. In non-conference action Selah dominated La Salle with an 8-0 victory.
Ephrata will visit Moses Lake tonight, Sept. 25, to take on the Mavericks in a non-conference match at 6 p.m.
