Three people were killed in two separate multi-vehicle collisions investigated by the Washington State Patrol on highways in the Columbia Basin Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.
On Wednesday (Sept. 30), two men died a collision that temporarily closed a portion of Interstate 90 near Moses Lake, the patrol reported.
The victims were identified as Brody C. Milbrandt, 29, and Craig A. Dennis, 27, both of Moses Lake.
Troopers said Milbrandt was driving east on the freeway when his 2018 Range Rover SUV struck the rear of another unknown truck. The Range Rover wrecked and came to rest in the eastbound lanes.
Both Milbrandt and Dennis, a passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene. It was undetermined whether either man was wearing a seatbelt.
The other involved vehicle continued driving eastbound and the driver was not immediately identified.
The incident, which remains under investigation, was reported at 9:43 p.m. near the intersection of Hiawatha Road, about five miles west of Moses Lake.
At 5:20 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 1), a two-vehicle collision was reported about five miles east of Othello on State Route 26.
Troopers said Josefina Cruz, 38, Kennewick, was driving north on Booker Road and failed to stop at the marked highway intersection. Her 2016 Cadillac SRX struck the first of two trailers being towed by a Peterbilt truck that was eastbound on SR 26. The impact caused the second trailer to detach and roll.
Cruz, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck driver, 47-year-old Miguel A. Castellon Quezada, no town listed, was not hurt in the collision. Troopers said he was wearing a seatbelt.
The Cadillac, Peterbilt, and both trailers were all totaled, the WSP report stated.
