CBAA will host Sundance Festival Film Shorts Tour
Seven short films which aired in 2025 at the acclaimed Sundance Film Festival will be presented by Columbia Basin Allied Art this Friday.
MOSES LAKE — Seven short films which aired in 2025 at the acclaimed Sundance Film Festival will be presented by Columbia Basin Allied Art this Friday, Feb. 6, at the Moses Lake Civic Center Auditorium.
The films, including two award winners, are a mix of American and international productions. They have a total run time of 100 minutes and are intended for a mature audience. The event will include an intermission. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased at www.cba-arts.org and at the door.
Doors open at 6 p.m. with films starting at 7 p.m. Concession sales of local products will be available from Moore Brewing Co., Evergreen Family Wine, Cow Path Bakery, Rowley & Hawkins Fruit Farms, and Starving Farmer Popcorn.
In its second year, the Sundance Film Festival Short Film Tour is an outreach of the Sundance Institute, founded in 1981 by actor/director Robert Redford to foster emerging talent in independent filmmaking.
“Audiences can enjoy a mix of fiction, documentary, and animated shorts that are funny, sad, inspiring, and full of strong characters,” CBAA said in a press release.
The selections are eclectic: a Prague resident wants to save his favorite beer stand from closure — and impress the bartendress — by fetching a new keg while dodging cops and robbers; a couple fleeing Vietnam by boat in 1975 wind us as extras in the filming of “Apocalypse Now;” affluent high schoolers debate proposed minimum wage legislation; a middle-aged tourist alone in Mexico City seeks adventure with a group of young Americans, and more.
Friday’s tour stop is the second year that Allied Arts has hosted the event, and is the only venue in Washington state to do so.
“There are so many different arts out there, but to find ways to present those as an addition to our regional offerings and not competition, can be challenging,” said CBAA executive director Shawn Cardwell. “This event is an attempt to add to the narrative, see something new, and have fun.”
CBAA’s final showing in its Friday Film Series will be on June 5 featuring “American Me.”
The Civic Center Auditorium is located at 401 S. Balsam St. in Moses Lake.
