CHELAN — The Lady Tigers came out hot but couldn't sustain the run, falling 34-23 to Chelan in a non-conference basketball matchup Friday, Dec. 5.

Ephrata led 6-2 after the first quarter before the Lady Mountain Goats settled in, outscoring the Tigers 10-0 in the second to take control. Chelan never trailed again.

On offense, it was a rough night for the Tigers, who shot just 18% from the field and went 0-for-15 from beyond the arc. The Goats also controlled the boards, out-rebounding the Tigers 38-30 with 17 coming on the offensive end.

Maycee Black led the Tigers with seven points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals, Sophie Molitor added six points on a team high of 3-of-7 shooting. Hannah Malone finished with four points and three rebounds.

One bright spot: Ephrata cut its turnovers by nearly half, committing 17 after giving it away almost three dozen times in the season-opening loss to Moses Lake.

"We are piecing things together," Ephrata coach Alain Black said. "Keep working to get better and learning to win the mental game."

Black said her players are focusing on spacing and finding good shots within their offense. Up next, the Tigers travel to Spokane this Friday, Dec. 12 to face the West Valley Eagles before hosting Prosser on Saturday for their first Central Washinton Athletic Conference matchup.

"West Valley has some height that we will need to focus in on," Black said. "Prosser is going to be aggressive and quick."

It was a busy weekend around the CWAC: Quincy edged Omak 36-34 before falling to Lakeside 65-33, Zillah rolled Grandview 63-47, and Selah survived a close one against W.F. West, 63-60. Connell knocked off Othello 46-32, East Valley (Yakima) dropped a pair, falling to Eisenhower 43-31 and West Valley 62-20. Chiawana of Pasco held off Prosser 60-55.

CHELAN — The Tigers dug themselves an early hole enroute to a 65-34 to Chelan in non-conference play Saturday.

The Goats entered the game ranked fifth in VarsityWA's 1A preseason poll and their offense proved too much to handle for Ephrata, which trailed 21-3 after the first quarter and 40-9 at halftime. The Tigers found some rhythm in the second half, tying the Goats 25-25 over the final two quarters.
