CHICAGO — Ephrata dentist Brian Jacobsen, DMD, MAGD, has received the Mastership Award from the Academy of General Dentistry in recognition of “a commitment to excellence in dental education.”

Dr. Jacobsen received the award along with 95 other general dentists during a June 27 ceremony in Las Vegas, Nevada.

To qualify, Jacobsen completed 1,100 hours of continuing education in 16 dentistry disciplines, including 400 hours dedicated to hands-on skills and techniques, the AGD said in a Sept. 10 press release.

“This accomplishment meets the highest criteria for professional excellence and is achieved by fewer than 2% of general dentists in the U.S. and Canada,” according to the organization.

During its scientific session in June, AGD president Marc J. Worob, DDS, FAGD, said, “This premier gathering brings together dedicated professionals such as Dr. Jacobsen who are passionate about elevating patient care, embracing emerging technologies, and strengthening the future of general dentistry through lifelong learning.”

A 2002 graduate of Oregon Health and Science University, Jacobsen’s practice is based in Ephrata. Additionally, he is a voting member of the Washington State Dental Association House of Delegates, a diplomate of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, a member of the American Dental Association, and a past president of the Grant County Dental Society.

A general dentist is the primary care provider for patients of all ages and is qualified to provide diagnosis, treatment, management, and overall coordination of services.

Founded in Chicago in 1952, the Academy of General Dentistry is a nonprofit international professional association representing over 40,000 general dentists, primarily from the United States and Canada. The organization promotes proficiency through continuing education and offers Fellowship and Mastership designations for qualifying members.
