Fleeing suspect faces burglary, eluding charges

EPHRATA — An Ephrata man faces several criminal charges including eluding police after being taken into custody Wednesday morning at a rural location near Quincy.

During an appearance later that day in Grant County Superior Court, 34-year-old Cody Wayne Miller pled not guilty to charges of second-degree burglary and resisting arrest. A Nov. 18 trial date was set and he remains jailed in lieu of $2,500 bail.

Miller was initially accused of entering the Ephrata Safeway store on Sept. 14 after previously being banned from the property. Police later located him in the 300 block of Sixth Avenue S.E., but he managed to flee from officers.

On Wednesday, Quincy police spotted Miller driving in a pickup and tried to pull him over, but he again fled from officers. Around 10 a.m., a property owner notified authorities that a male subject was trying to conceal a truck matching Miller’s description in the 16000 block of Road 7.6-NW.

The pickup was gone when Grant County sheriff’s deputies and Quincy police arrived at the location, but another deputy observed the truck in the 15000 block of Road 8-NW. Deputies surrounded the property and, with the help of Quincy police and a Moses Lake police dog, persuaded Miller to surrender without incident.

According to the sheriff’s office, Miller is also being detained on other outstanding misdemeanor warrants and is a person of interest in a series of crimes committed in both the Ephrata and Coulee Dam areas.
