EPHRATA POLICE
At 2:37 p.m. Sunday, police were notified that two people were in an apartment belonging to a person currently incarcerated in the Grant County Jail. Officers contacted the two subjects in the first block of Basin Street N.W. while jail staff contacted the apartment owner, who said the subjects had permission to be there. Officers determined that one of the individuals, 47-year-old Artur Vasil Yevich Vozny, was wanted on outstanding warrants related to prior offenses for criminal trespass and misdemeanor assault. Vozny was taken into custody and also booked into jail.
A two-vehicle, non-injury collision was reported at 9:55 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of Basin Street and Third Avenue S.W. Police said Linda L. Sherwood, 74, Ephrata, was eastbound on Third Avenue when her 2020 Dodge Durango collided with a 2016 Mazda driven by Dilan Ensastegui Rodriguez, 30, Ephrata, who was turning from Basin Street onto Third Avenue. The right-of-way was not clearly determined -- both drivers told officers they had a green light, the report stated.
A report of unusual circumstances was received at 8:27 a.m. Sunday in the 200 block of C Street N.W. Police were told an older male subject was walking in a neighbor’s yard and trying to open a door to the residence. An officer contacted the 75-year-old man, who said he was confused and thought he was at a girlfriend’s house. The man was transported to the home of a family member.
A report of suspicious circumstances was received a 10:03 p.m. Saturday in the first block of Ivy Street N.E. The complainant said an unidentified subject wearing dark clothing and a backpack was climbing their backyard fence from the alleyway. When lights were turned on, the suspect fled toward nearby East Division Avenue. Officer searched the area but did not locate the suspect.
Around 6 p.m. Friday, police were notified that a group of individuals were having a party atop a city water reservoir on Beasley Hill near the 200 block of Abel Road. Responding officers contacted the subjects, who admitted they climbed onto the water tower because they “wanted a good view of the city.” They were warned not to do it again.
GRANT COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
At 12:10 a.m. today (Monday, Sept. 29), deputies assisted Mattawa police in responding to a shooting in the first block of 2nd Street in Mattawa. A wounded male subject told police he had been shot in the hand a few minutes earlier by an unnamed suspect. Deputies helped secure the scene and the victim was transported to the Tri-Cities for medical care.
At 12:31 p.m. Friday, a fisherman notified authorities that he observed a body floating in Moses Lake near a public boat launch in the 7000 block of Dune Lake Road SE. Detectives responded and recovered the body of a woman whom they believed fell off a pontoon boat and drowned. There was no indication of foul play, and the woman’s next of kin were notified, according to the sheriff’s office. The boat was later located along the shoreline and retrieved. On Saturday, the Grant County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased woman as 82-year-old Lalitha Sanathanan of Moses Lake. An autopsy is scheduled Tuesday, Sept. 30 to confirm the cause and manner of death, the report stated.

EPHRATA POLICE
A vehicle theft was reported at 10:07 a.m. Wednesday in the 1600 block of Basin Street S.W. Officers located the vehicle – a 2001 Ford F150 pickup – in the vicinity and took a suspect into custody. Russell Hunter Dees, 33, Soap Lake, was arrested on suspicion of a theft of a motor vehicle and booked into the Grant County Jail.
An animal welfare report was received at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 1300 block of Nat Washington Way. The complainant said she observed a goat tied up in the back of vehicle. An officer responded but did not locate the goat or vehicle in the area.
A malicious mischief incident was reported at 6:35 a.m. Tuesday in the 600 block of E Street S.E. The complainant said he discovered the rear window had been broken out of his vehicle.
GRANT COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
A domestic disturbance was reported at 5:31 p.m. Wednesday in the 6000 block of Turnkey Road NE near Moses Lake. Authorities were told that a man and woman were physically fighting at the location. Upon arrival, deputies determined that the man had visible marks on his face and neck. The female suspect, 28-year-old Brisa Gres Silva of Moses Lake, was arrested on suspicion of fourth-degree assault (domestic violence) and booked into the Grant County Jail.
A domestic disturbance was reported at 12:22 p.m. Wednesday in the 300 block of Road 18.8-NE near Soap Lake. The complainant said a female acquaintance was throwing things around at the location. Leeya Young, 27, Soap Lake, was arrested on suspicion of fourth-degree assault (domestic violence) and booked into the county jail.
A report of suspicious circumstances was received at 8:04 a.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Cochrane Road and Airway Drive NE near Moses Lake. The complainant said a female motorist appeared to be slumped over the steering wheel of a blue car parked with the engine running. A deputy located the vehicle and observed drug paraphernalia in the woman’s lap. When questioned, the woman – identified as 32-year-old Sarah Lynn Haugen of Wenatchee – allegedly admitted she had been smoking fentanyl. She was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of physical control of a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
A fraud report was received at 3 p.m. Tuesday from a rural Moses Lake woman in her late 60s who alleged that tech billionaire Elon Musk had “ripped her off for $3,200.” A deputy contacted the woman, who said a caller identifying himself as Musk told her she would be receiving a new Tesla car with $1.5 million inside. The woman was also told to purchase Apple gift cards that would be provided to Musk in exchange for the car and cash. The deputy told the woman that he would document the incident and advised her not to buy any more Apple gift cards. The woman said she understood.
At 8:32 a.m. Tuesday, authorities were notified that a male subject was seen burglarizing a fenced storage container in the 11000 block of Neppel Road NE near Moses Lake. The property owner identified a possible suspect who previously broke into the shipping container on Sunday, stealing items valued around $8,000. Deputies located the suspect, identified as 35-year-old Douglas Wayne Raymond of Yakima, who was driving a white Ford F-250 pickup that was stopped on State Route 282 near Ephrata. A female passenger in the pickup, 41-year-old Debra Nicole Russo-Wright of Yakima, was also taken into custody. Both were booked into the county jail on suspicion of burglary, theft, and possession of stolen property. According to the sheriff’s office, crime reduction members also drove to Yakima and recovered property taken during Sunday’s alleged burglary.
A theft was reported at 6:45 a.m. Tuesday in the 4700 block of Stratford Road NE near Moses Lake. The complainant said her garage door was open and her 2018 Subaru Outback was missing. Authorities located the stolen car around 7 p.m. near the intersection of State Route 17 and Randolph Road. A juvenile suspect driving the car was taken into custody for possession of a stolen motor vehicle.
At 7:45 a.m. Monday, an assistance request was received from the Ephrata Police Department regarding a work truck stolen from Inland Propane. Authorities were told the missing truck was“pinging” at a location in the 11000 block of Montezuma Drive NE near Moses Lake. A deputy responded and found the unoccupied vehicle. Personnel from Inland Propane were notified and arrived to take custody of the truck.
A burglary was reported at 8:38 p.m. Saturday in the 6000 block of Road S-SE near Warden. The complainant said unknown suspects broke into her home while it was unoccupied sometime between mid-afternoon and early evening. A large sum of cash and personal possessions were missing. Anyone with possible information was asked to call the Grant County MACC dispatch center.

EPHRATA POLICE
At 10:48 a.m. Sunday, an officer responded to a vehicle collision near the intersection of State Routes 17 and 282, about five miles southeast of Ephrata. One motorist with a head wound was examined and cleared by Lifeline ambulance personnel. The officer stood by until the Washington State Patrol arrived to handle the investigation.
A disturbance was reported at 10:43 p.m. Saturday in the 600 block of Basin Street S.W. Police were told that an individual had been assaulted during a fight and there was mention of a firearm. Officers and Grant County sheriff’s deputies responded to the location, but no one at the scene claimed to be a victim.
A burglary was reported at 8:40 a.m. Saturday at an unspecified business in the 200 block of First Avenue S.W. The reporting party said a cash box, two hammers, and some items in a refrigerator appeared to be missing.
While on patrol at 12:31 a.m. Friday, an officer observed a four-wheeler being ridden southbound along the railroad tracks near the intersection of 10th Avenue N.W. and North Alder Street. On foot, officers followed the tracks and found the vehicle abandoned in the 800 block of Alder Street. After confirming the four-wheeler was stolen, it was impounded and a message was left for the owner about the recovery.
GRANT COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
A domestic disturbance was reported at 11:45 p.m. Sunday in the 500 block of Desert Aire Drive SW near Mattawa. The reporting party said her former boyfriend had stolen her car keys earlier in the day, then broke a window at her house and refused to leave the premises. Deputies arrested Isaac Lopez Sanchez, 40, on suspicion of third-degree theft (domestic violence) and third-degree malicious mischief (domestic violence). Sanchez was booked into the Grant County Jail.
A report of animal cruelty was received at 11:40 a.m. Saturday in the 7600 block of Pettigrew Road NE near Moses Lake. Deputies were told that a male subject had shot at and wounded a dog inside a kennel. Ruben Garcia Juarez, 74, Moses Lake, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree animal cruelty and booked into the county jail. The dog was taken to a shelter and medical records will be obtained to confirm the animal’s injuries, authorities said.
At 8:52 p.m. Friday, deputies assisted Moses Lake police with an investigation of illegal drug activity at an unspecified location. Joel Eveline, 42, was arrested on suspicion of possession, delivery or manufacture of a controlled substance and first-degree unlawful possession of a firearm. Eveline was booked into the county jail.
At 10:25 p.m. Thursday, deputies engaged in a high-speed pursuit of a motorist in a silver Ford Mustang which “blacked out” its lights and fled eastbound on Interstate 90 at speeds exceeding 120 mph. Moses Lake police placed spike strips at exit 176 which disabled the car and the driver was taken into custody. Jordan Wheeler, 20, Puyallup, was arrested on suspicion of attempting to elude a pursuing police vehicle, driving with a suspended license, and two counts of reckless endangerment. He was booked into the county jail.
A two-vehicle collision was reported at 5:50 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Road 13-SW and South Dodson Road near Royal City. Deputies said Sercan Hepsener, 37, Kent was driving westbound on Road 13 in a 2023 Ford F550 truck towing a trailer loaded with grapes and failed to stop at the intersection stop sign. The truck struck the passenger side of a 2005 Honda Civic driven by Brayan Castellanos, 20, of Othello, who was southbound on Dodson Road. The Honda was partially carried underneath the truck and trailer, then spun out and struck the rear of the trailer. Castellanos sustained unspecified injuries and was airlifted to Kadlec Hospital in Kennewick for medical treatment. Hepsener was not hurt in the wreck, according to the report. A section of Road 13-SW was temporarily closed to traffic to clean up the spilled grapes.
A trespassing incident was reported at 6:45 a.m. Thursday in the 19000 block of Road A.3-NE near Soap Lake. The complainant said a neighbor carrying a makeshift spear was allegedly observed on video on his property in violation of a court order. Deputies responded to the location and arrested Tamara Leigh Breckenridge, 55, on suspicion of second-degree criminal trespass and unlawful display of a weapon. She was booked into the county jail.

EPHRATA POLICE
A report of suspicious circumstances was received at 11:12 p.m. Tuesday at a restaurant on South Basin Street. A woman advised police that her order of french fries tasted like bacteria and she wanted the fries sent to a laboratory for testing. An officer suggested some options that the woman could pursue.
At 8:43 p.m. Tuesday, police were advised that a male subject was slumped over on a sidewalk in the vicinity of Summitview Drive S.E. on Ephrata Heights. An officer contacted the man, who said he was having vision difficulties and was unsure of his location. The man was provided a courtesy ride but declined medical assistance.
A burglary was reported at 12:30 p.m. Monday in the 100 block of A Street S.E. Police were told multiple vehicles, two sheds, and cargo containers had been broken into at Grant County PUD’s service center and storage yard. PUD personnel were compiling a list of items believed to be missing.
A malicious mischief incident was reported at 9:11 a.m. Monday in the 900 block of K Street S.E. The complainant said the passenger side of a 2015 Toyota Corolla had been scratched overnight by a sharp object.
GRANT COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
At 6:55 p.m. Wednesday, deputies were advised of a domestic dispute in the 19000 block of North Frontage Road West, south of Quincy. The complainant said a female family member was hitting him. The woman left the residence prior to a deputy’s arrival, but she was located by other patrols in the 20800 block of Road 5-SW. Ana Daysi Herrera, 49, was taken into custody and booked into the Grant County Jail on suspicion of fourth-degree assault (domestic violence) and third-degree malicious mischief (domestic violence).
At 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, two individuals were arrested in connection with an alleged drug transaction at Civic Park in the 300 block of South Balsam Street in Moses Lake. Roberto Robles Mejia, 45, and Kristen Rachel Rich, 33, were both booked into the county jail on suspicion of possession or delivery of a controlled substance. The county Interagency Narcotics Enforcement Team was informed of the incident.
A theft was reported at 8:20 a.m. Tuesday in the 4800 block of Airway Drive NE near Moses Lake. The complainant said her black 2011 Hyundai Sonata was stolen overnight. The woman said her keys were not left in the car, but its trunk lid does not latch properly and sometimes pops open. No suspects were immediately identified.
A report of suspicious circumstances was received at 7:31 a.m. Tuesday in the 8000 block of State Route 281 North near Quincy. The complainant said he found a male subject attempting to steal a battery from a lawnmower. Deputies arrested Francisco Eduardo Martinez Garcia, 22, on suspicion of second-degree burglary and an out-of-county warrant. Garcia was booked into the county jail.
At 11:10 a.m. Sunday, authorities were notified that a person who appeared to be deceased was seen on the roadside near the intersection of State Route 283 North and North Frontage Road West. A deputy and personnel from Grant County Fire District No. 3 responded and contacted a male subject who was awake. The man advised he was hitchhiking to Texas and had been getting some rest. The deputy provided him with a courtesy ride to a truck stop/convenience store in George.
A theft was reported at 8:45 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Road E-NW and State Route 28 West, south of Ephrata. Tyson Cobb of rural Ephrata told authorities that copper electrical wire had been stolen from an irrigation circle near the location. The loss was estimated at $10,000. No suspects were immediately identified.

EPHRATA POLICE
At 2:40 a.m. Sunday, police were informed that a motorist had struck some roadway debris in the 200 block of Nat Washington Way. Officers responded and found what appeared to be remnants of a light fixture that had fallen from a light pole onto the roadway. The officers cleaned up the debris. No damage was reported to the motorist’s vehicle.
A vehicle-pedestrian accident was reported at 6:43 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Basin Street and First Avenue S.W. Police said a 16-year-old Ephrata boy driving a 2020 Jeep Gladiator had stopped at the intersection and was turning south onto Basin Street when the vehicle struck an 18-year-old Ephrata woman in the crosswalk. The woman was transported to Columbia Basin Hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. The boy was cited for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
A theft was reported at 4:24 p.m. Saturday in the 100 block of First Avenue N.W. The complainant said he left his phone at a local tavern the previous evening and it was now missing. The man named a possible suspect and the incident was under investigation.
At 8:41 a.m. Saturday, police made telephone contact with a wanted subject at an apartment on South Basin Street. The man, identified as 31-year-old Jacob P. Sjolin of Ephrata, agreed to exit the apartment and was taken into custody and booked into the Grant County Jail on suspicion of second-degree possession of stolen property. Sjolin was under investigation by Ephrata and Moses Lake police for allegedly possessing items stolen in a vehicle prowl and using a victim’s cash card at a local convenience store.
GRANT COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
At 4:15 p.m. Sunday, deputies were informed that a male subject wanted on an outstanding felony warrant was in Moses Lake. Assisted by Moses Lake police, deputies located the wanted man – identified at 30-year-old James Douglas Clary – at Civic Park and took him into custody. Clary was booked into the Grant County Jail on suspicion of second-degree burglary.
At 12:30 a.m. Sunday, authorities were informed of an unwanted male intruder at a location in the 100 block of Schilling Drive NE near Moses Lake. The complainant said she had ended a four-year relationship with the man, but he had entered her residence without permission. No court orders were in place and the man had a key to the residence, according to the report. However, when a deputy arrived, the man allegedly fled out the back door, hid in the back yard, and attempted to run away when confronted by the deputy, who deployed his taser and took the suspect into custody. Freddie Juan Bazan, 33, Moses Lake, was booked into the county jail on suspicion of first-degree criminal trespass, obstructing a law enforcement officer, resisting arrest, and an outstanding court warrant.

EPHRATA POLICE
A disturbance was reported at 9:35 p.m. Wednesday in the first block of F Street N.W. The complainant said neighbors were playing drums and instruments, frightening her dogs. An officer called the neighbors, who advised the instruments had stopped.
A report of suspicious circumstances was received at 9:04 a.m. Tuesday in the 200 block of Basin Street S.W. The complainant said a male subject was trespassing on the front porch. An officer who responded to the residence found the man on the porch eating a sandwich and charging his cell phone. The man was advised to leave the property.
An unwanted subject was reported at 8:46 a.m. Tuesday in the 900 block of East Division Avenue. Police were told that a male subject was crossing the property at New Life Christian School and talking to children. School staff expressed concern because of previous issues with the same individual. The man was contacted and trespassed from the property.
GRANT COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
A domestic disturbance was reported at 4:08 a.m. Tuesday in the 4000 block of Road Q-SE near Quincy. Authorities were told that an intoxicated 17-year-old male came to the residence and shoved a female subject who is pregnant with his child. The boy had previously been trespassed from the residence. Quincy police first arrived on scene and detained the boy, who was then arrested by deputies on suspicion of first-degree burglary (domestic violence), fourth-degree assault (domestic violence), violation of a court no-contact order, and minor in possession or consumption of alcohol. He was transported to the Chelan County Juvenile Detention facility.

EPHRATA POLICE
A possible assault was reported at 3:34 p.m. Sunday. Police were informed by Columbia Basin Hospital staff that a male subject who claimed he had been pepper-sprayed came to the emergency room seeking medical care. The man left the ER prior to the arrival of an officer and additional details were unavailable.
A report of suspicious circumstances was received at 12:42 p.m. Sunday in the 800 block of A Street S.E. Police were told that a male subject approximately 50 years old, wearing a gray shirt and open-carrying a firearm, was observed talking to himself while walking behind the Ephrata Fire Department station. An officer responded and checked the area, but did not locate the man. Separately, police were notified around 2:45 a.m. Sunday about a male subject acting strange and possibly carrying a weapon in the vicinity of Fourth Avenue and Alder Street S.W.
A two-vehicle collision was reported at 8:19 p.m. Saturday in the 4000 block of State Route 28 West, south of Ephrata. Officers responded and provided traffic control while the Washington State Patrol investigated the wreck, which temporarily blocked the highway. A detour route was established between Neva Lake and Dodson Roads NW. The highway reopened around 9:30 p.m.
A report of public indecency was received at 12:39 a.m. Saturday in the 1100 block of Basin Street S.W. Police were advised that a female subject in the Safeway store parking lot was removing her clothing and yelling for help. The 47-year-old Soap Lake woman was last seen walking away from the store and no contact was made with the subject. However, police notified Grant County Mental Health of the incident. About one hour earlier, officers had responded to the same location and contacted the same woman who was creating a disturbance and was permanently trespassed from the property.
While on patrol Friday shortly before midnight, an officer observed a vehicle with a broken windshield and defective license plate light and taillights. During an ensuing traffic stop in the 300 block of South Basin Street, the driver was allegedly non-compliant and taken into custody. Dustin T. Kapalo, 39, Ephrata, was arrested on suspicion of obstructing and failure to obey a law enforcement officer. He was booked into the Grant County Jail and later released. The vehicle – and a dog inside it – were released to a family member.
GRANT COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE
Around 12:30 p.m. Sunday, a deputy located an occupied stolen vehicle outside a motel in the 2800 block of Driggs Drive in Moses Lake. A pursuit ensued with the driver fleeing westbound on Interstate 90 until losing control on the Hansen Road exit and becoming stuck on a guardrail. After several minutes of negotiating, the driver – identified as 37-year-old Colin James Golden of Arlington – was taken into custody. He was initially transported to Samaritan Hospital for a medical evaluation, then booked into the Grant County Jail on suspicion of possession of a stolen motor vehicle, felony eluding, driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, obstructing a law enforcement officer, and resisting arrest.
A disturbance was reported at 9:27 p.m. Friday in the 6000 block of Turnkey Road NE near Moses Lake. Authorities were told that a male subject pointed a handgun at a female neighbor and threatened to shoot her during a verbal argument. Deputies responded to the location and arrested Kaleb Foster Martin, 22, Moses Lake, on suspicion of second-degree assault. He was booked into the county jail.

A two-vehicle, non-injury collision was reported at 5:33 p.m. Wednesday on Basin Street S.W. Police said Yamileth M. Gamiz, 24, Soap Lake, was driving south and slowed for traffic when her 2016 Dodge Journey was rear-ended by a 2025 Honda Odyssey driven by Shelley A. Fredrick, 48, Soap Lake. Both vehicles remained drivable and the two drivers exchanged information.
A truck-motorcycle collision was reported at 4:40 p.m. Wednesday in the roundabout intersection at State Route 282 and Nat Washington Way/Road B.3-NW. Police said Dmitry Y. Nakonechny, 43, Moses Lake, had entered the roundabout eastbound on a 2019 Honda CB500 motorcycle. The rider lost control of the bike and fell after braking hard to avoid a collision with a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by Jeffrey S. Matson, 53, Bend, Oregon, who failed to yield when entering from Road B.3. Nakonechny was transported to Columbia Basin Hospital for a precautionary medical examination. Matson was cited for failure to yield the right-of-way.
Police received reports of a suspicious male subject creating disturbances at multiple locations around town on Wednesday. An officer was waved down by the man around 1 p.m. in an alley near First Avenue N.W. between Basin and C Streets. The man said he was wanted on multiple outstanding court warrants and asked to be booked in the Grant County Jail. During the encounter, the man – identified as 40-year-old David B. Van Bouchaute of Moses Lake – allegedly became verbally abusive and wanted to fight. Van Bouchaute got his wish: he was taken into custody and jailed on warrants for violations of original charges that included domestic assault, resisting arrest, trespassing, misdemeanor theft, drunk driving and driving with a suspended license.

EPHRATA POLICE
A disturbance was reported at 10:02 p.m. Tuesday in the 400 block of East Division Avenue. The complainant said she was seated inside her vehicle at a store parking lot when an unknown female subject tried to force her way into the car. A struggle ensued. Officers responded and arrested Jacqueline Velazquez Bautista, 21, Moses Lake, on suspicion of second-degree assault. She was booked into the Grant County Jail.
A domestic disturbance was reported at 9:32 p.m. Sunday in the 1000 block of Third Avenue N.E. Police were told a 46-year-old female had been attacked by a male acquaintance. No serious injuries were reported. The suspect, 41-year-old Rodrigo C. Sandoval of Ephrata, was arrested on suspicion of fourth-degree assault (domestic violence) and booked into the Grant County Jail.
A disturbance was reported at 6:47 p.m. Sunday in the 400 block of Fourth Avenue S.E. Police were told that a 15-year-old boy displaying scissors was threatening to kill his parents and breaking items in the residence. The boy’s father sustained minor injuries and the mother was also assaulted but not hurt. When officers arrived, the teen assumed “a fighting stance” with the scissors but then surrendered at taser-point. The boy was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault (domestic violence), fourth-degree assault, felony harassment, and third-degree malicious mischief (domestic violence). He was transported to the Chelan County Juvenile Services facility.
At 8:25 a.m. Sunday, an officer contacted a female subject who attempted to hide beneath a blanket inside a garbage dumpster in the 200 block of H Street S.E. After complying with a directive to exit the dumpster, it was determined that the woman, identified as 21-year-old Tianna J. A two-vehicle, non-injury collision was reported at 1:40 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of State Route 282 and Airport Street S.E. Police said a 17-year-old Ephrata girl took a turn too wide off the highway and her 2010 Toyota Tacoma pickup struck a 2004 Honda Civic driven by Ed J. Graciano De Leon, 30, of Moses Lake, who was stopped at the stop sign on Airport Street. Both vehicles sustained reportable damage.
A two-vehicle, non-injury collision was reported at 10:12 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Alder Street and First Avenue S.W. Police said Mark R. Beyer, 63, Soap Lake, was southbound on Alder and signaled to turn into a parking lot when his 2014 Jeep Cherokee was rear-ended by a 1997 Ford F250 pickup driven by a 16-year-old Soap Lake boy who failed to stop in time. The two vehicles sustained minor damage.
While on patrol at 9:23 a.m. Saturday, an officer observed a man and woman inside a garbage dumpster in an alleyway in the 100 block of Basin Street S.W. Both were compliant with a directive to exit the dumpster. It was determined the female subject was wanted on an outstanding district court warrant for failure to appear or comply on an original charge of third-degree theft. Katie L. Wenz, 30, Moses Lake, was taken into custody and booked into the county jail.
A two-vehicle, non-injury collision was reported at 5:07 p.m. Friday on Basin Street near the intersection of Sixth Avenue S.W. Police said Kyle P. Mahuika, 44, Wenatchee, had stopped for traffic when his 2021 Toyota Sienna van was rear-ended by a 2018 Ford F150 pickup driven by Jennifer R. Calhoun, 43, Selah. The Toyota’s rear bumper was pushed in from the impact.
At 11:41 a.m. Friday, police received a call for assistance from a male subject at a residence on Basin Street S.W. The man said his cat had a seizure, stopped breathing, and died in the living room. He asked for an animal control officer to pick up the deceased feline for disposal. The man was told that an officer would not respond to the residence, but he was provided with some options for proper disposal. The man said he appreciated the information.
A disturbance was reported at 12:27 a.m. Friday regarding an unknown male subject yelling in the darkness on a hillside near Columbia Basin Hospital. An officer located the man in the 700 block of A Street S.E. near the city’s recycling impound. The man was advised to quit yelling in the night and go home. The man said he understood.

At 11:07 p.m. Tuesday, authorities located a wanted subject at a truck stop in the 400 block of South Frontage Road West at George. Javier Vargas Contreras, 45, no town listed, was taken into custody on a federal fugitive warrant and booked into the Grant County Jail.
A domestic disturbance was reported at 5:18 p.m. Tuesday in the 16000 block of Road B-SE near Royal City. Deputies were told that a male subject was at the location in violation of a court protection order. The suspect, 20-year-old Antonio A. Perez Saquic, had a prior conviction for the same offense. He was arrested and booked into jail on that charge and a state Department of Correction detention warrant.
At 7:42 p.m. Monday, deputies assisted Mattawa police investigating a report of subjects in a green Subaru trying to shoot at a house in the 400 block of South Riverview Avenue in Mattawa. Two suspects, a juvenile and an adult male, were taken into custody. The adult, 26-year-old Edwin Eduardo Herrera, was booked into jail on suspicion of unlawful display of a weapon, harassment, and an outstanding district court warrant for failure to appear or comply.
A malicious mischief incident was reported at 6:43 p.m. Monday at the intersection of State Route 283 and the North Frontage Road of Interstate 90, about one mile east of George. Authorities were told that three air vents had been damaged overnight on the outside of the Murphy’s Corner Coffee Co. building. Surveillance video footage was available, but no suspects were immediately identified.
A domestic disturbance was reported at 4:42 p.m. Monday in the 17000 block of Tacoma Street SW in Beverly. Authorities were told that a male subject got into a verbal argument with his mother and vandalized the residence by punching holes in the living room and bathroom floors and damaging the bathroom door. The suspect, 24-year-old Daniel Fernandez Barajas, was arrested and jailed on suspicion of third-degree malicious mischief (domestic violence).
