PRISON TERM FOR DRIVER IN HIT-AND-RUN WRECK
EPHRATA – An Othello woman who injured at least two other people in a hit-and-run collision south of Moses Lake in early 2023 has been sentenced to a year in prison.
Breanna Rodriguez, 23, pled guilty Monday in Grant County Superior Court to vehicular assault, hit-and-run involving an attended vehicle, and reckless driving in connection with the Jan. 22, 2023 collision investigated by Warden police and the Washington State Patrol.
According to WSP reports, Rodriguez – then 20 years old – was under the influence of alcohol while driving at a high rate of speed westbound on State Route 170 in a 2018 Honda Civic with three passengers. She failed to stop at an intersection stop sign and collided with a 2008 Lincoln SUV driven by Alvin Korrell of Othello, who was northbound SR 17.
The impact caused the Lincoln to roll onto its side into a ditch and seriously injured a passenger, 59-year-old Gloria Korrell of Othello, who sustained multiple broken bones, according to the State Patrol.
Rodriguez and her passengers fled the scene on foot. She and a bloodied male passenger were found walking behind a nearby dairy by a Warden police officer, who reported smelling a strong odor of intoxicants.
Rodriguez suffered a collapsed lung in the wreck and was not immediately taken into custody. Rodriguez told investigators that she had only consumed two beers prior to the collision, but court records say her blood-alcohol level two hours later was 0.13 – above the state’s legal limit of 0.08.
This July, Rodriguez entered an Alford plea, saying she disagreed with aspects of the state’s case against her but acknowledging the prospect of being convicted of more-serious charges if the case proceeded to trial.
During Monday’s court hearing, Judge Melissa Chlarson sentenced Rodriguez to 12 months and one day in prison and suspended a 364-day jail term on related misdemeanor charges. Rodriguez was also ordered to complete 18 months’ community custody upon release, submit to a substance abuse evaluation and any recommended treatment, and pay restitution of $2,157 to the state Crime Victims Compensation fund and restitution to be determined to Gloria Korrell.
ML MAN PLEADS GUILTY TO CHILD PORN CHARGES
EPHRATA – A Moses Lake man has pled guilty in Grant County Superior Court to four felony counts of possessing images or videos of child pornography.
Michael Allen Boyer, 69, is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 28. He entered guilty pleas to charges of first-degree possession of depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct during a Sept. 2 hearing before Judge Tyson Hill.
Afterward, Boyer was booked into the Grant County Jail. According to court documents, he faces a standard range of 77 to 102 months in prison followed by 36 months’ community custody after release.
Boyer’s case was investigated by the Grant County Sheriff’s Office and Moses Lake police based on information provided in September 2023 by the Internet Crimes Against Children task force in Seattle. Prosecutors initially charged Boyer with 15 felony counts in March 2024.
According to investigators, phone numbers and internet addresses linked to Boyer showed multiple video files containing explicit sexual images of pre-pubescent children that were uploaded online. At the time of Boyer’s charging, the sheriff’s office said there was no indication that any of the images involved local children.
