EHS boys second at Royal Invite; Tiger squads split CWAC duals
Caleb Fitts ran a sub-two-minute 800, Abigail Chamberlain and Hannah Malone led a girls 2-3 in the 3200, and Tiger relays won at both meets across two days at Vanderholm and second CWAC meet.
Ephrata's boys and girls track teams each had split outcomes during CWAC dual meets at Ellensburg last Thursday, April 30. A day later, the Tiger boys placed second among 19 teams while the Lady Tigers finished fifth out of 18 at the Vanderholm Invitational at Royal.

ROYAL CITY — The Tiger boys scored 83 points and trailed only East Valley of Yakima (119.5) in the final team standings during last Friday's invite. In placing fifth overall, the Lady Tigers tallied 65 points behind Cashmere (109.5), East Valley of Yakima (96.5), Davenport (84) and Connell (68
Boys
Ephrata sophomore Caleb Fitts finished second in the 800, breaking the 2-minute barrier for the first time with his effort of 1 minute, 57.70 seconds. Teammate Cooper Black followed Fitts, placing fourth in a season-best 2:04.08. Grandview's Brendan Kramer topped the field at a personal-best win of 1:54.95.
Ephrata's Niko Diaz ran a personal-best 10:29.53 to take second in the 3200.
The Tiger 4x400 quartet of Andy Addink, Black, Fitts and Maddax Iverson raced to the win in 3:33.62, nearly two seconds ahead of East Valley (3:35.22) and third-place Royal (3:35.58).
Iverson also took third in the 300 hurdles in 41.85 and fifth in the 110s at 16.76. Jacob Reyes followed at fifth in the 300s in a season-best 43.15 and sixth in the 110s at 16.78
The Tiger 4x100 of Addink, Iverson, Casey Melcher and Reyes placed fourth in 45.38.
Among throwers, Ephrata's Calvin Lybbert finished fourth in the shot put with a toss of 46 feet, 10 inches, with Brice Strickler sixth at a personal-best 46-6.5. Jacob Bartlett threw a personal-best 153-11 for fourth in the javelin, and Tyler Kono placed fifth in the discus at 132-7.
In other field competition, Jens Bair cleared the bar at 11-6 for third in the pole vault, with Caleb Newton tied for fourth at 10-6. Melcher tied for sixth in the high jump at 5-4.
Girls
In the distance races, EHS junior Abigail Chamberlain ran 12:03.62 for second place in the 3200 followed by teammate Hannah Malone in third with a season-best 12:46.19. Connell's Lucy Campbell won the event with a personal-best clocking of 11:55.95.
In the 1600, Ephrata saw personal bests recorded by Rebecca Wiser, placing third at 5:36.01, and Savannah Harper, sixth in 5:52.88.
Jasmine Hernandez took third in the 400 in 1:04.07, with Cynthia Villagran Morales fifth at 1:05.52.
Bella Wood placed fifth in the 100 hurdles at 17.42.
The Lady Tiger 4x100 squad of Addison Vasquez, Delanie Killinger, Villagran Morales and Staci Guerrero finished sixth in 54.09.
Lila Buchmann threw 106-1 for fourth in the javelin, a personal best. Killinger took fifth in the triple jump in a season-best 32-5. And Alexis Edwards and Ella Schultz tied for fifth in the pole vault at 7-6.
CWAC Meet #2
ELLENSBURG — A day earlier, Ephrata's 1-2-3 finish in the boys 100 meters, a winning 4x100 relay effort, and three individual Lady Tiger wins were highlights at the CWAC #2 tri-meet.
The Tiger teams both outscored Othello (boys 101-44, girls 87-62), but fell to host Ellensburg (boys 42-103, girls 53.67-96.33).
Boys
In their top-three sweep of the 100, Ephrata's Hunter Mills broke the tape in 11.58, followed closely by teammates Andy Addink second at 11.74 and Casey Melcher third at 11.84.
The Tiger 4x100 of Addink, Melcher, Mills and Maddax Iverson then followed with a winning time of 44.48, edging Ellensburg (44.65).
Iverson also tied for first in the 300 hurdles (with Othello's Jonah Hahn, both at a personal-best 40.63) and took third in the 110 hurdles in 16.37, with Jacob Reyes fifth in 16.84. In the 300s, Reyes was fourth in 43.46.
Fitts ran a personal-best 4:27.86 for second in the 1600 behind Ellensburg's Mystic Hammond (4:21.30 SB). Black took second in the 800 in 2:05.19, with Adrian Negrete fifth in 2:13.88.
The Tiger 4x400 unit of Iverson, Fitts, Cooper Black and Addink ran 3:30.14, just 0.22 seconds behind Ellensburg's winning 3:29.92.
Addink placed third in the 400 in a season-best 52.14. Connor Liffengren placed sixth in the 3200 in a personal-best 11:29.08.
Adding to Ephrata's points tally, Tyler Kono placed second in the discus at 133-5, with Cooper Kriete third at 133-0. Kriete also took third in the shot put at 45-9.5, Calvin Lybbert was fourth at 44-6.5 and Micah Sandberg sixth at a personal-best 39-9.5.
Jacob Bartlett threw 144-7 for second place in the javelin and Benson Bair followed at sixth in 132-4. Melcher was third in the triple jump at 36-9 and cleared 5-10 for fourth in the high jump. Bair landed a personal-best 11-6 for fourth in the pole vault, with Caleb Newton and Nathan Wolther tied for fifth at 11-0.
Girls
Abigail Chamberlain won the 800 in a season-best 2:30.09, with Rebecca Wiser finishing third at a personal-best 2:35.07. Tiger junior Alexis Edwards won the pole vault at 8-0 with Ella Schultz second at 7-6 and Gracie Hundtoft fifth at 6-6. Senior Delanie Killinger pounced her way to a win in the triple jump at 32-1, Evangeline Springs was fourth at 29-6 and sophomore McKinley Cobb fifth at 28-8.5.
Ephrata's Bella Wood ran a personal-best 16.91 for second in the 100 hurdles behind Ellensburg's Yutong Liang (16.81 SB). Addison Vasquez was fourth at 18.16, Alexis St. Mary fifth at 18.67 and Cobb sixth at 19.20. In the 300 hurdles, sophomore Brinlea Ohl took third in 51.90 and Vasquez fourth in 52.33, both personal bests.
Going the distance, Hannah Malone claimed second in the 1600 in a season-best 5:48.66, and Savannah Harper was third in the 3200 in a season-best 12:31.55.
Hannah Fitts ran a personal-best 1:03.14 for third in the 400, with Jasmine Hernandez fourth in a season-best 1:03.73 and Cynthia Villagran Morales fifth in a season-best 1:04.20. Amya Seblario placed third in the open 100 at 13.63 with Alexis St. Mary fifth at 13.84. Hernandez was fourth in the 200 in a season-best 28.14.
The Lady Tigers' 4x100 relay of St. Mary, Villagran Morales, Killinger and Staci Guerrero placed second in 52.93. The 4x200 of Killinger, Guerrero, St. Mary and Villagran Morales took second in 1:53.72, and the 4x400 squad of Fitts and sophomores Bailee Morris, Clairissa Johnson and Wiser placed second in 4:33.59.
Lila Buchmann was second in the javelin at 100-5. Cassidy Cox cleared 4-8 for second in the high jump. Jaiclynn King threw a personal-best 79-11 for third in the discus.
