New jail to open, choir performance set, drowning death determined.

NEW JAIL-GCSO OFFICE OPENING PLANNED

EPHRATA — Grant County will host an 11 a.m. ribbon-cutting ceremony on Wednesday, June 17, to mark the opening of the new sheriff’s office and adult corrections facility, located at 1890 Nat Washington Way.

Construction of the office, 512-bed jail, and support facilities formally began with groundbreaking on June 20, 2024 and has remained on scheduled during a 24-month build period.

Lydig Construction Inc. of Spokane Valley is the general contractor for the $155.5 million project.

COMMUNITY CHOIR PERFORMANCE JUNE 8

EPHRATA — Members and friends of the Ephrata Community Choir will share their musical talents during an evening performance Monday, June 8, starting at 7 p.m. at the Community Church of Ephrata, 54 K St. S.E.

Admission is free with a suggested donation of nonperishable food items for the Ephrata Food Bank.

CAUSE OF DEATH DETERMINED

COULEE CITY — A Moses Lake man whose body was found Sunday evening at the intake of the Summer Falls Power Plant at Billy Clapp Lake died from asphyxia due to drowning, reported Grant County authorities.

The victim was identified as 39-year-old Anthony Mann, who was last seen in Moses Lake on Friday, May 15.

Following an autopsy conducted this Tuesday, the manner of death was determined to be accidental, said county coroner Craig Morrison.

Mann’s unoccupied van was found on Monday, May 18, several miles south of Coulee City near Trail Lake and adjacent to a main irrigation canal upstream from Summer Falls, reported the Grant County Sheriff’s Office.

The body was discovered around 7 p.m. on Sunday, May 24. Sheriff’s detectives said there were no signs of foul play.
