Ephrata softball won a pair of league doubleheaders last week, sweeping Grandview at home April 9 and Toppenish on the road April 14 while outscoring the two opponents 78-17 in the four-game stretch.

April 9 vs. Grandview

In Game 1, pitcher Haley Trusty went the distance, allowing just one run over five innings as Ephrata opened the week with an 11-1 win over visiting Grandview.

The Tigers scored eight runs in the second inning to put the game away. During the outburst, Dakota Durfee's double drove in two runs while Brynnle Leonard swatted a two-run single and finished with three RBI. Sidney Chornuk batted 2-for-3 with three stolen bases.

Shown here in earlier season action, Tiger pitcher Sidney Chornuk went the distance in earning Game 2 wins against both Grandview and Toppenish.

In Game 2, Sidney Chornuk took the circle and worked all five innings as Ephrata pulled away in the 15-5 win. Cami Martinez went 4-for-5 with a triple and three RBI while swiping three bases. Durfee doubled twice and scored four times. Ephrata put up seven runs in the second inning, when Grandview burned through three pitchers trying to stop the damage.

Game 1 opened with a defensive gem. The Lady Tigers produced an 8-4-3 triple play in the bottom of the first before the Tigers' offense took over in this 28-8 rout. Ephrata scored 10 runs in the first inning and collected 26 hits on the day.

Brynnle Leonard hit an in-the-park home run and finished with eight total bases. Dakota Durfee added a home run and two doubles. Ella Piturachsatit tallied seven total bases and Bailey Falconer six.

Ephrata's Dakota Durfee connects at the plate during an earlier season game against Selah. Durfee was one of the Tigers' top producers during a recent four-game sweep of Grandview and Toppenish, hitting two home runs and totaling nine bases in the 28-8 win at Toppenish.

In Game 2, Cami Martinez posted 8 RBI as Ephrata capped the sweep, 24-3. Martinez went 4-for-5 with a triple and a double. Bailey Falconer hit a three-run home run in the first inning and added a double in the fifth, finishing with three RBI. Durfee also homered and drove in three runs. Chornuk worked all five innings for the pitching win.

Coach Lesa Trevino said the Tigers' offense is clicking at the right time.

"Our offense has been doing a really good job of staying simple and attacking early in counts," Trevino said. "The girls are competing every at-bat, putting balls in play, and putting pressure on defenses. We've also been emphasizing staying through the ball and trusting their approach, and that's really starting to show."

Trevino credited contributions throughout the roster.

"It's really been a full team effort," she said. "Different girls are stepping up in different moments, and there's been great energy throughout the lineup."

Trevino said execution and consistency will drive the Tigers the rest of the season.

"Down the stretch, our focus is continuing to compete every inning, limiting mental mistakes, and playing clean defense," she said. "If we stay locked in and play our game, we'll be where we want to be."

Ephrata hosts Prosser in a CWAC doubleheader this Saturday, April 18, starting at 11 a.m. It's likely to be a competitive matchup. The Mustangs sit at 3-5 in the CWAC and 3-8 overall, one game behind the Tigers (4-4 CWAC, 5-8 overall) in the conference standings.

"Prosser is always a competitive team, and we expect them to come ready to play," Trevino said. "We'll need to match their intensity, stay disciplined, and execute in all phases."
