Tiger boys top Prosser, Quincy; Lady Tigers split

Ephrata boys swept their home Central Washington Athletic Conference tri-meet Thursday, May 7, defeating Prosser 77-67 and routing Quincy 110-35. The Lady Tigers handled Quincy 114.5-34.5 but fell to league-leading Prosser 102-48.
Ephrata did well in the boys sprints. Hunter Mills won the 100 in 11.64 and the 200 in 23.17. Andy Addink took the 400 in 53.21 trailed by teammate Cooper Black, who ran a personal-best 53.48 for second. The 4x400 relay of Alexander Belino, Maddax Iverson, Black and Addink finished the day with a win in 3:31.62.
Jacob Reyes won the 110 hurdles in 17.31 and took second in the 300 hurdles at 42.83, a season best. Iverson won the 300 hurdles in 40.94.
Caleb Fitts won the 1600 in 4:47.23. Niko Diaz claimed the 3200 in 10:37.54 after running a 4:55.18 personal best for second place in the 1600.
In field events, the Tigers' Jacob Bartlett won the javeline with a toss of 151 feet, 9 inches while Benson Bair was fourth at 137-8. Cooper Kriete had a personal-best throw of 48-8 to take second in the shot put, and 133-10 for second place in the discus. Calvin Lybbert added a 48-6 personal best for fourth in the shot put. Tyler Kono was fourth in the discus at 126-2.
For the Lady Tigers, Zarianna Garcia won the shot put with a personal-best 31-1. Jaiclynn King took the discus with a personal-best 83-8. Lila Buchmann won the javelin at 94-7, followed in second place by Aliyah Lafferty at 92-8.
Ella Schultz cleared a season-best 8-0 for second in the pole vault. Cassidy Cox was second in the high jump at 4-8. Delanie Killinger landed 32-10.5 for second in the triple jump, a season best.
On the track, Ephrata scored two individual firsts. Bella Wood won the 100 hurdles in 17.20 and Abigail Chamberlain took the 3200 in 11:56.88.
Rebecca Wiser ran second in the 800 in 2:41.09 and third in the 1600 in 5:36.23.
The 4x200 team of Alexis St. Mary, Jasmine Hernandez, Cynthia Villagran Morales and Brinlea Ohl narrowly missed the win by just .13 of a second, finishing in 1:53.26 to Prosser's 1:53.13.
Ephrata travels to Grandview this Thursday, May 14 for their final league contest with the Greyhounds and East Valley starting at 3:30 p.m.
The boys (5-1) are currently tied for second in the CWAC with East Valley, setting up a showdown for control of second place in Thursday's meet. The girls are fourth at 4-2, a win ahead of East Valley and Grandview, both 3-3 in league meets.
Next week, the two-day district meet will be hosted by Quincy on Tuesday, May 19 and Friday, May 22, beginning at 3:30 p.m. each day.
CWAC athletes can qualify for the Class 2A state meet May 28-30 at Mount Tahoma High School in Tacoma by placing in the top three at districts or by hitting the WIAA 2A state minimum standard during the district meet.
